You have received an infringement notice by mail.
If you do not pay it you will then receive a court attendance notice.
When you appear in court the police will defer the matter until a later date. and this will continue until you do not show up then they send you another letter demanding payment of the original fine plus court costs. and if this is not paid they send you a letter saying that your license has been cancelled until you pay the amount.
This I have learnt from experience (not me) just pay the fine.
You will also find a solicitor will experience the same problem, then you have to pay his fee as well.

"How is an in the mail infringement different to any other?"

Ones stuck in your letterbox, the other is stuck through you car window. That just cost you 500 bucks Jack for the "professional" advice.

If you contest the fine in court, they bring the speed camera in and put it in the witness box. Where I get to cross-examine it on your behalf. That just cost you another 500 bucks.

If you are found guilty, and that's most likely having me for your lawyer. I will plead "insanity" on your behalf, whereby they will lock you up in an institution for the rest of your life. that will cost you another 500 buck.

All in all, a good days work for me, and a profitable one as well.

Dear Ttbn,

«You seem to have a lot of trouble with the law.»

Don't we all?

How we handle that trouble can be different from one person to the next, but whether we ignore the laws at our personal peril (like Jack) or comply like chicken then spit at ourselves with contempt (some sadly also at their loved ones) for being such cowards, the trouble is there just the same.

I'm glad Jack has came on here seeking free advice. So happens I am just the lawyer Jack needs. Just last week I was in traffic court cross examining a witness.

Me; State your full name.
Wit; Speed Alphonso Camera
Me; Occupation!
Wit; Taking photos.
Me; Where were you on the night of March 6th.
Wit; I was in Dingo Street
Me; Doing what?
Wit; Taking photos of speeding motorists.
Me[ Did you observe my client on the night in question.
Wit; Yes
Me; What was he doing?
Wit; Speeding.
Me; What did you do?
Wit; Took his photograph.

ME; Well your Honour, I think that establishes my clients guilt, and he throws himself on the mercy of the court. I would just like to say, could you please consider life imprisonment, rather than the usual execution, my client has an aversion to the noose. Maybe not, its all good with me.
