Porter disclosed, as is obligatory for all Politian's in Federal Parliament, that he received a sizable anonymous donation to help cover his personal legal fees in his failed litigation with the ABC and reporter Louise Milligan. The purpose of the donation is irrelevant, it could be for a new car, or an overseas holiday, even to cover gambling debts, anything and everything might be acceptable to some. What is relevant is this bloke, a Cabinet Minister, has taken a large amount of money from someone we don't know, and is not being revealed to the public, and thinks its okay. Labor was asked if it passed the pub test, they said it didn't even pass the laugh test. This is the last straw, this bloke who thinks he was born to rule and is above the rest, should be booted from Parliament and a by-election held to find a replacement.

In theory, a parliamentarian is supposed to represent his/her/its voters, thus should owe nothing to anyone else.

So long as the parliamentarian did not promise their voters that they will not accept anonymous donations, then secretly broke that promise, no wrong was committed. On the other hand, voters should not need to have an excuse to boot a "representative" that no longer represents them.

All I can say is good riddance - the country's far better off without him in charge of anything!

However, expelling him from parliament before the next election should be ruled out. Though he's contravened ministerial standards, he hasn't broken the law at all, let alone committed a sufficiently serious offence to warrant that penalty.

Like Bridget McKenzie and Barnaby Joyce Porter will sit quietly for a few months and eventually find his way back into the cabinet, especially if there's an early election.
However his dream of eventually becoming PM may have disappeared and so he may decide not to bother with politics at all.

I suppose, according to the new standard, if Sam Dastyari had been paid via a blind trust he's still be there now.

So this is a new angle for corrupt politicians, a so called "blind trust" where unspecified amounts of dosh are paid into a secret fund by unidentified persons for the finical benefit of the said politician. The amounts and the persons involved possibly only known to the politician themselves. Poor Eddie Obeid, Eddie didn't known where the money was coming from, he thought it was from grateful admirers.

This with Porter stinks like prawn heads in the hot sun! The grub should resign.

Unless you can do something about Porter get over it. You have no say in what he does, and you will all make comments from a purely politically biased point of view. The man is a politician. Don’t kid yourselves or try to kid others that you are shocked or personally affronted. You get the politicians you deserve. Suck it up.
