I heard something on ABC Radio (yeah, yeah alright) where more water was allocated to some producers since Barney got back.
The question is, is it for a logical reason or just political ?
Anyone know the ins-outs of this ?

You can rely on those cow cockies. In NSW they have been useless dealing with Covid. Now Barrel's has got Big Nose over a barrel, Nationals are marching into Parliament House and bring Covid with them.

Bad enough NSW had Mr Limo driving around Covid cases from the airport without ppe or any vaccination, a complete stuff up by NSW Health Minister The Hazzard. The same bloke who waved them off the Ruby Princess, with 28 dead from the virus.

The issue isn't about nett zero by 2050. That's going to happen. Our two major parties are locked into that fantasy.

We will set a target that by 2050 we will absorb as much carbon as we admit. Its all make-believe and we will never achieve it, but the other developed nations are also playing make-believe and we will be required to play along. At some point in the 2040's political leaders all over the world will be explaining why their nation couldn't live up to the promises the previous generation made, while making more equally unattainable promises - "plus ça change..". On the other hand, technological changes not yet envisaged may come along to make the carbon economy obsolete, in which case all the promises will have been in vain anyway.

So we will have 2050 targets. The Nats know that. But the issue is who will pay for us to met those targets. As I've explained before, everyone is okay with having these feel-good targets so long as someone else picks up the tab. That's why Labor had such problems over Adani - their green wing wants others to pay, and their miner wing would prefer to not do so.

The Nats aren't trying to stop the target. They are trying to ensure that, unlike the Kyoto targets, their supporters aren't forced to pick up the tab. If we really wanted to meet these targets we could double petrol prices and quadruple electicity prices. But no party would promise that because the urban voters would revolt. So they promise things that insulate the cities and get the farmers and miners to pay, just as with Kyoyto. The Nats are determined to prevent that this time.

Relax everyone, by 2050 it will have become obvious that the temperature
rise has stopped and a slight decline will be noticeable.
The temperature rise peaked on schedule 300 years after the lowest
temperature in the Maunder minimum around the 1790s.
The current cycle appears to be 600 years long, but the next could be
1000 years long. The Turku uni people are trying Fourier analysis to
work out how each cycle varies.
By 2050 people will be wondering what the zero2050 was all about.

To mimic Bill Clinton: IT IS THE SUN STUPID !

Yes Bazz, but long before 2050 the lights will start going out far too regularly for even those specially treated inner city high rise folk to be spared the inconvenience of blackouts. It is only going to take a few times when the woke lefties are sitting in their high rise with the lifts not running for the love affair with windmills to dissipate like a morning fog.

Anyone with even half a brain knows that windmills & solar, even with the biggest batteries ever imagined just can't carry the load, & even the woke will learn this fact fairly soon. We will never get anywhere near 2050 before even they wake up.

Can you imagine the Poms, & some US states want to [& actually are] ban gas heating & cooking, & make cars electric, while closing down much of the reliable power generation. How many this tomfoolery will kill in their cold winters is any one's guess, but the toll will be huge somewhere before the fools wake up.

Obviously the Germans have woken up, even if they are not publicly admitting it. They aren't banning gas, but are funding a new gas pipeline from Russia to power their electricity plants & home heating, along with industry. A bit tricky of them, while talking their competitors to shut down theirs.

It is just this sort oh thing that Barnaby won't fall for. Time for the nationals to start using their power as the greens do, to force their will on anyone wanting their support. At least they will do it constructively, rather than destructively.
