Though this week's violence in Washington DC was unprecedented, it had been predicted.

For weeks, Trump supporters have been using online platforms to openly plan the storming of the US Capitol building.

Questions are now being asked about why law enforcement appears to be have been caught unprepared and whether social media companies could have shut down these groups earlier or done more to de-escalate the violent rhetoric on their platforms.

Earlier this week, extremism and disinformation research organisation Advance Democracy Inc (ADI)

published a report warning that online pro-Trump violent rhetoric had spiked ahead of the January 6 pro-Trump rally in Washington DC.

Its analysis found a hubbub of activity on a relatively obscure online forum — thedonald.win.

The self-described "never-ending rally dedicated to the 45th President of the United States" had previously operated on Reddit before the company banned it in June 2020 for racism, sexism, anti-Semitism and inciting violence.

The site is open to the public and does not disclose its ownership.

In its report, the ADI chronicled evidence of a surge in violent rhetoric on January 4

when more than half of the top posts on thedonald.win, that related to the upcoming January 6 rally, featured calls for violence within the top five comments.

The post was liked or 'upvoted' more than 5,000 times.

In a popular thread referencing a Trump tweet promoting the debunked conspiracy theory of election fraud, one user asked, "what if Congress ignores the evidence?"

"Storm the Capitol," was a popular reply.

Five days later, on January 6, as pro-Trump militia proceeded to do exactly that, the mood on thedonald.win switched to jubilation and outright defiance of police, with thousands joining "watching party" message threads.

"This is what Trump told us to do!" a top post in one of these threads read..."

I explained in another post that I backed both contenders, so many people were letting their emotions set the odds that it was relatively easy to back each one and still win a heap.

The Toyota that I bought with the Morrison bets was second hand and is a manual model without a computer or electrically operated windows, door locks or mirrors. It was also unmarked till a couple of suicidal 'roos managed to ding it up a bit.
