BIDEN’S VICTORY SPEECH
Sunday November 8, Australian Time, on Youtube http://youtu.be/yX20JkK5L3s TRANSCRIPT begins http://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2020-11-07/joe-biden-victory-speech-2020-election-transcript "My fellow Americans, the people of this nation have spoken. They have delivered us a clear victory. A convincing victory. A victory for “We the people.” We have won with the most votes ever cast for a presidential ticket in the history of this nation — 74 million. I am humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in me. I pledge to be a resident who seeks not to divide, but to unify. Who doesn’t see red and blue states, but a United States. And who will work with all my heart to win the confidence of the whole people. For that is what America is about: the people. And that is what our administration will be about. I sought this office to restore the soul of America. To rebuild the backbone of the nation — the middle class. To make America respected around the world again and to unite us here at home. It is the honor of my lifetime that so many millions of Americans have voted for this vision. And now the work of making this vision real is the task of our time. ...And to all those who supported us: I am proud of the campaign we built and ran. I am proud of the coalition we put together, the broadest and most diverse in history. Democrats, Republicans and Independents. Progressives, moderates and conservatives. Young and old. Urban, suburban and rural. Gay, straight, trangender White. Latino. Asian. Native American. ... And to those who voted for President Trump, I understand your disappointment tonight. ... But now, let’s give each other a chance. It’s time to put away the harsh rhetoric. To lower the temperature. ...To listen to each other again. To make progress, we must stop treating our opponents as our enemy. ...This is the time to heal in America. ...to the more than 230,000 families who have lost a loved one to this terrible virus this year. My heart goes out to...you." Hi Pete,
Thanks for the transcript. What a difference between Biden and Trump. So glad that the United States has selected a leader someone whose defining characteristics are empathy and competence. This is a wonderful development. The fact that Trump wants to overturn the election only shows the fatality of the bullet the American democracy looks like it dodged. America has done well not to have given in to a fraudster, liar and a bully's wish to stay in power. Great day for democracy. Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 8 November 2020 2:41:16 PM

Foxy,
Biden has a big task waiting for him come January. I think he will focus his attention on suppressing the pandemic across America even if that means getting the states to lock down similar to what has been the approach in Australia (all to the chagrin of Soot Morrison who wants to force open the international border in order to bring in millions of cashed up Chinese migrants to maintain his tickle down economic programs.) This will mean the US takes backstage in world politics and economy for a couple of months. What will be the ramifications of this? I think for a lot of people including Australia things will get a lot worse and for China it might provide the opportunity it has been waiting for to annex Taiwan and consolidate its military strength in the South China Sea. I don't think Biden will react to such actions by China, putting it on the Do List of things to worry about after America has won its battle against the pandemic. Just watched the Biden/Harris speeches, their message of hope and unity for all Americans, with a promise of a brighter future for those who have been left behind. Promising to govern for all, both for those that voted for them, and those who didn't. Can't ask more than that.
ttbn and others should note, great coverage of the US election by our ABC. Posted by Paul1405, Sunday, 8 November 2020 5:25:46 PM

I think ex-President Trump will be alright because I saw him at the betting shop putting money on Biden to win.
