There's no question of Mr Abbott's loyalty to the

As soon as I saw that Tony Abbott had been appointed to a senior position in the UK I knew that the left whingers would go beserk and froth at the mouth.

The reality is that Australia has frequently been giving permission for Aussies to leave for work reasons on the condition that on returning they remain in isolation for 2 weeks (I know of a few), so there are no special favours there. What they have limited is the places for people to return based on the isolation facilities.

Secondly, given TA's experience in finalising 4 FTAs in 2 years (more than the 0 achieved by labor in 6 years) with mostly the same partners that the UK is trying to achieve combined that with TA's amiable disposition that has enabled him to strike up close personal relationships with many heads of state and this makes him the preimminently most qualified candidate for the role.
