This discussion makes it perfectly clear that the parents & adults are the problem, not the kids !
These people are denying the kids to experience discipline & gain an understanding of common sense. These adults should be charged with perversion of common sense !

Issy, Indy, Hassy, ttbn, runner and any others who support corporal punishment in schools. From your experience, which for the most part is from 60 to 80 yeas ago, and the norm then, for boys was the cane and the strap for girls. Would you like to see those instruments of punishment reintroduced into schools? If you agree, then to what extent, for what offences, and by whom, would you like it administered. Do you have any alternatives?

Paul1405,

I think I can speak for Issy, Indy, Hassy, ttbn, runner and any others who support corporal punishment in saying their response would be: YES! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

Paul,

The norm in my school was for class teachers to meet out punishment as they saw fit.
I cannot recall one incidence when punishment was excessive, the teacher on playground duty wore his cane thrust through his girdle but most use of it was to prod the offender as a warning.

The use of the cane had its funny times, I recall a mate and I used to eat a lolly a day in class, which was forbidden and the penalty was one cut of the cane on the left hand, or in the case of lefthanders, on the right.
We were undetected for the first term but were silly enough to boast about our feat.

The first day of term 2 we successfully concealed eating the lollies but the teacher, just before the final bell asked us if we had eaten in class.

As the honour system was the norm in our school [and we couldn't lose face with our peers], we admitted the offence, same for day two and the rest of the term.

Term 3 and the teacher suggested that we promise not to eat in class, which we thankfully did, being heroes was becoming a hazard.

Hi Issy,

"The norm in my school was for class teachers to meet out punishment as they saw fit." How exciting. Is that what you want reintroduced? If you are going to support the reintroduction of CORPORAL PUNISHMENT in schools, then how about an outline of the hows, whens and whys.

Did you know, several of the paedophile Catholic clergy admitted that when severely caning a boy they would get an erection. So the administration of corporal punishment was also a sexual experience for some. How exciting, I'll call it the runner syndrome.

Between the bashing's, the buggering and the religious indoctrination, its a wonder they found time to teach anybody anything.

The cane was used extensively by "the brothers" (such an irksome term) in my school days. I could relate several instances of its excessive and sadistic use.

In this enlighten age I believe most teachers, the vast majority, would be sickened by the thought that they would be required, as part of their daily duties, to wack and beat children as young as five, with sticks and straps etc.

My older brother was a state school teacher in NSW for about 50 years, as far as I am aware he never reached the level of failure that he had to resort to bashing the children in his care.

Come on fellas, gives us your ideas on this.
