I wonder why anyone would declare they're a policeman; only to be pilloried by all and sundry. Often for alleged offences committed by others - but by dint of your uniform, only to be found just as culpable?

Interestingly - 'a copper is generally, the last person you'd wish to share a beer with; but the first person you want to see, when you're in trouble'.

A colleague and good friend of mine, at the start of one of our day shifts, said before we go mobile, he's got some exhibits to pick up from Court, so he'll be out for about an hour of so, and he'd take the car. That's OK, time for another coffee and type up a few statements.

An hour went by; then two; until it was decided we should contact Comms. where a LOTBKF was B'cast, for our M/V. Shortly thereafter he was spotted sitting in the M/V, in this inner City Park. He'd placed his gun in his mouth and blown the back of his head off.

It emerged an allegation had been made against him, by this young, 20 year girl, accusing him of touching her up? Internal Investigations Detectives quickly proved she was lying, In fact she had antecedents for similar complaints. She was on day-leave from a Psychiatric Hospital and she was always alleging some sort of misconduct against Ambo's; Hospital staff; in fact anyone silly enough to tangle with this lady. He was married with two, near adult kids, and a practising Catholic. A bloke who was decorated while serving with the United Nations Civil Police Contingent, in Cyprus.

As I said, why would anyone wish to be a copper?

I'm not going to defend myself or my previous employer. I was immensely proud to have worn the blue uniform, made some lifetime mates - and yes, belief it or not, manifestly helped a number of people who, without my own personal intervention, would've come to grief quite badly. Mate, I've given up on PAUL1405. I should've taken notice of my very first instinct I had of him, over his reasons for escaping being 'called up' during the Vietnam War. He claimed he was a 'Conscience Objector', where many of them were found to be just 'dodging the draft', on the ground's of fear. Fear of the unknown; the basic training; or fighting a war. Others identified them as being cowards. Is PAUL1405 a legitimate Conscience Objector, or a coward? Only he knows that. Kinda fit's when you think about. Does everything possible to avoid Conscription. Therefore, he has little or no truck with the Army, perhaps a deep seated hatred. As he does for the police.

I know one thing, there's something amiss with this bloke, and you're of course right when you aver, he and others hate authority. I'd really like to know why?
