o sung wo you must not judge me uncaring,in fact many of the local cops know me to be a supporter, and a long sporting life playing my brand of football, mostly in country towns, see ,s me still have police as mates, and yes relatives, we saw this thug, he is that, bash a kid who was handcuffed,a kid with mental health issues, screaming for God to help him, 16 blows, everyone uneeded on a kid not resisting? mate not going too deep in to it,but a midnight bashing, by cops, because I would not look the other way, an unexpected visit from a very senior cop, from ICAC lets me see SOME are just as you know they are, it is wrong to hate cops, most are worth far more than we pay them, but sons and daughters of unwed parents exist in that uniform too, while police did suffer in that investigation my lips remained sealed in the end you can never win if you take on the police, that bashing?both refused a rematch after the ICAC thing

PAUL1405...

Your last paragraph, and the several questions you raised, requiring some sort of response from me?

Derogative comments directed at homosexual men? Yes, often in fact. But in context eg; '...Is cell 4 occupied Sarge?...' '...No mate put him in 2, there's a 'poofter' (non-associate)in 4...'

You must forgive me PAUL1405, I wasn't aware of your 'queer' sexuality until recently, therefore I do understand, you get a little querulous when it involves Gays? However your community does accept the word 'queer' as it's in common usage among your like minded peers.

(ii) Prisoner(s) ill-treated? eg man handled into a cells; dragged out of the back of the police truck; sworn at; strip searched against his will; cuffed up using handcuffs and restraining belt; a decent blue between prisoner v copper; yup, and much more.

People arrested are generally not your normal God fearing, gentle folk. They're abusive; resistive; often filthy, in fact the entire nine yards of human aversion and revulsion, more so than you PAUL1405, could ever imagine, residing as you do in your closeted little world of impassivity and languor. And that includes both sexes, male & female.

Concerning the Maori. I was relieving Detective Sgt I/C (CIB) at Bondi. The first such occasion I ever worked the area. Who do you reckon were the biggest troublemakers? Drunken brawls; assaults; petty theft, the entire ambit of street offences. Not discounting the many domestic violence matters that occurred in there?

Predominantly, most crime was committed by the Maori! They were and are, the single biggest pain in the arse one could ever expect to deal with. Local businesses utterly loathed them. In fact Bondi North was called by some wag; little Palmerston North. What a reputation! - didn't really bother them too much though, why would it, they were always far too intoxicated to worry - unless of course it was their Unemployment pension day at the Bondi Junction Centrelink Office. Many were intractably lazy, preferring instead to live off the Aussie Taxpayer.

Hi there BELLY...

I'm first to admit there ARE corrupt; dirty; and dishonest police. As such, they should be routed right out of the job and suffer the heaviest punishment for their crimes.

BELLY, please indulge me for a moment...Name me one single vocation, occupation, or job that hasn't had the same type of misbehaviour among their ranks, as police? The Church; Medical Profession; perhaps the Angels we have with us, here on earth; our Nurses?

Don't bet on it, the number of Registered and State enrolled Nurses who've committed some atrocious murders, and crimes involving acute cruelty to our aged in nursing homes, will attest to that fact! Generally speaking our Nurses are just that, Angels among us when we're sick and at the point of our demise (if we're lucky of course).

So you can see my friend there is always someone within our vocational ranks, who're going to
let the side down and bring everyone in that industry into disrepute.

Hi o sung wu,

"I (o sung wu) wasn't aware of your (paul405) 'queer' sexuality until recently, therefore I do understand, you get a little querulous when it involves Gays"

Since I am heterosexual with a wife (2nd wife who is Maori and two children, plus grandchildren). Please forgive me if I take your casual observations and generalizations with a grain of salt. Getting one thing wrong, you may well be wrong on other things. Nor am I going to engage in tit for tat nonsense, about Maori in North Bondi or coppers I seen bashing people on mass at protests.
I suspect when you observed bad behavior by other officers you done what any "good" police officer would do, you turned a blind eye.

Police in general are of slightly above average intelligence, most are drawn from the middle socio-economic group in society, most are male, although that is changing, many are above average physically, but significantly younger that other professions. Demand for positions is high, there is no shortage of applicants, although requirements have been broadened in recent times. Police like military personnel exhibit a conservative political bias. The status of police officer has risen significant in society over time, that is not surprising considering like the military the need for professionalism within the ranks has also increased. Remuneration and conditions including job security are well above average, if one compares police to similar occupations based on learning and duties.

At one time corruption was systemic in the police force. Police, like the bloke with his hand in the till down at the local RSL, seen themselves as a special case, getting something extra was seen as legitimate perk of the job, "after all I am special, I'm serving the community." that was the attitude, plus there was no external policing of police and they were all "good" officers, isn't that so o sung wu.

BTW one of my best mates, now deceased, was Crown Sargent at Paddo for years. Lenny was his name, played wing for Souths in his younger days, we often went fishing together.

At his retirement send off an AC said to Len "Well, Len, you and I got our houses through the force." I liked his reply; "You got yours through the force, I worked for mine." Why did you say that; "Because I could then, besides I never liked the bastard anyway."

//Did you ever witness a "suspect" being ill treated, or another officer acting outside his authority, in your estimation? I am of the belief that in a long career you most likely came across such instances. I am also of the belief you most likely ignored it and turned a blind eye.//

Well, yeah. That's how it's done:
