Dear Shadow Minister,
The following information was released by Amnesty International: Report: "By Hook or By Crook - Australia's Abuse of Asylum Seekers at Sea." http://www.amnesty.org.au/refugees/comments/38329/ And - http://www.amnesty.org.au/refugees/comments/41864/ Sweeping things under rugs, denial, lack of transparency, secrecy, is anything but "ludicrous." Still, to each their own. Posted by Foxy, Thursday, 23 June 2016 6:09:59 PM

Hi Foxy,
You must remember Shadow sees 'Amnesty International' as a criminal organisation, guilty of sticking up for evil asylum seekers. p/s I an guilty also, as I am a member. Posted by Paul1405, Friday, 24 June 2016 6:00:49 AM

Paul,
If idiocy was a crime then indeed you would. The problem with these issue based organisations is that eventually they get hijacked by political advocates, and amnesty international is not immune. I was a member of the RSPCA until I realised that most of the discussion had now moved beyond just protecting animals, and had become a group strongly advocating vegetarianism and veganism. Similarly AI has left its original base of investigating human right abuses and been hijacked by political advocates of a wide spectrum of imaginary rights in fields as diverse as feminism, gay rights and asylum seeker advocates. These advocates are so smug as to the righteousness of their causes, that they no longer feel the need to filter out some of the more blatant falsehoods from their literature, and as a result has lost a lot of credibility. The same crap happened with the anti bullying program safe school which morphed into a gay sex advocacy program. Posted by Shadow Minister, Friday, 24 June 2016 10:12:50 AM

Dear Shadow Minister,
No matter what is presented to you - you seem to find some excuse to knock it back. There is no point therefore in continuing this conversation. Dear Paul, Amnesty International has a reputable reputation. They deal with facts. They presented their findings in the Report: "By Hook or By Crook - Australia's Abuse of Asylum Seekers at Sea." http://www.amnesty.org.au/refugees/comments/38329/ It's worth a read as they keep politics out of their report. They merely report their findings. See you on another discussion. Staying on this one I see is a waste of time. Posted by Foxy, Friday, 24 June 2016 11:30:50 AM

You have not provided a single jot of evidence that the navy caused the burns. That the asylum seekers were trying to enter Australia illegally and were frustrated by the navy is in any court a significant motivation to fabricate a story. In the link below, the photo of burnt hands shows burns that are clearly far from recent and probably predate the turn around by a week or two.
Your reasoning that the navy would lie is incoherent as even wrt the children overboard issue, the navy was not implicated. The implication that the navy or the police use the silence on operational matters to cover up torture is ludicrous.
