Governments, in this case the federal government, are the bully boys on the block who show complete contempt for history and agreements they themselves have entered into in the past.
Typically, the feds have been bullying the NSW Rifle Association for over twenty years, trying to get the land to flog it off to developers, probably to overseas interests. Government just turned around and issued an eviction notice out of the blue. The appropriately named ANZAC Range is where Australian soldiers trained for both world wars and it has been has been NSWRA's headquarters for over forty years. I am led to believe that the main stumbling block where the federal government was concerned, was that it wouldn't establish a facility elsewhere in exchange. The facility is a paying proposition for government and the many licensed competition shooters who use it pay large fees for their licences (John Howard's 'initiative'!). They don't seem to get much in return for lining the pockets of government and especially the State government. -Reminiscent of boat owners, where licence and other fees that were supposed to be returned as more and improved facilities, eg boat ramps with secure parking, but in reality bugger all in return, not even politeness from the regulators and their public bureaucrats. Is Mise, lets hope the Shooters stop handing out guns to mentally unstable people to commit suicide. Regrettably there have been 8 suicides at shooting ranges across Australia since 2002. As in the case of Gabby Molnar, who in 2013 went to that very range you speak of ANZAC at Malabar, simply filled out a P650 form as a unlicensed shooter. with no checks. was give a gun and ammunition, went to the car park unsupervised and blew his brains out!
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-03-17/widow-calls-for-tighter-gun-laws-after-shooting-range-suicides/6327284 I don't have a problem with people target shooting, shooting clay pigeons, even going to the local carnival and shooting tin ducks with a bent air rifle, trying to win your favorite, Donna, a big fat stuffed bear. Whatever turns you on in that regard. But giving out guns to mentally unstable people, I can't come at that, but lets not have that interfering with the fun. i'm sure your so called "liberal democrat" Senator will get his just reward at the upcoming election. The irony being there is a good chance David Leyonhjelm position in NSW will be taken by a Green. Could this be Dave's first, last and only hurrah in the Senate. Paul,
Gabby Molnar killed himself at Condell Park not ANZAC range, but then a Green has never let facts get in the way of scoring a political point. The unfortunate man was intent on ending his suffering and he chose a quick and relatively painless way of doing so, no doubt he never thought of the wider ramifications of his action. Nor, I would imagine, did he ever think that a member of a party that supports the right of terminally ill people to choose to end their suffering would use his death to try and score a point that is totally irrelevant to the topic under discussion. Is Mise, my error, different location same result, but I am glad to see you acknowledge the facts of the matter.
Wow! I take it you are in favour of shooting ranges being able to give the mentally unstable who want to commit suicide the means to do so. All you require is a P650 form? Is that correct. Yes I support the right of terminally ill people to choose to end their suffering, but no with the unsupervised assistants of the Shooters. This is not isolated, in 2011; The tragic case of Shamin Fernando, who shot her father Vincent Fernando, in her Glebe home, with a gun she stole from a pistol club she had been allowed to join despite her mental illness. Police tried to have this 'Gun Clubs' licence suspended. Is Mise, there are community concerns about the lackadaisical way these shooting ranges are run, including the ANZAC Range at Malabar. Paul,
"Is Mise, there are community concerns about the lackadaisical way these shooting ranges are run, including the ANZAC Range at Malabar." Reference, please,i.e. put up or .... but then you're always shy of references. I help run a range and attend many others and none of them are run in a lazy manner, in fact quite the opposite, all the range officers that I know are right on the ball all the time. If ranges were run in a slack manner then Firearms Registry (FAR) would be right on to them FAR take their job seriously. The developers have had their greedy eyes on the ANZAC Range for years, hopefully they'll now lay off for a while. Posted by Is Mise, Monday, 9 May 2016 2:54:16 PM

"Liberal Democrats Senator for NSW David Leyonhjelm is delighted to announce that the future of shooting sports in Sydney is assured after a 50-year lease of the ANZAC Rifle Range at Malabar was signed by the NSW Rifle Association yesterday.
Senator Leyonhjelm made this a priority from day one of his tenure as Senator in 2014, and used it as a bargaining chip with the government on key pieces of legislation.
this brings to an end 20 years of legal action and uncertainty
Senator Leyonhjelm said this brings to an end 20 years of legal action and uncertainty over the Malabar Range which has wasted public money, stalled local planning, and forced shooters not to upgrade their facilities....."
