Another issue you seem to dodge is the fact that plain packaging was introduced to kurb smoking in our youth, yet, most of our youth can't buy them anyway.

All this law has done is exposed us to a potential extremely costly legal battle, expending funds which One, we don't have, and Two, could be used for far more important issues.

As for stopping smoking, the answer is simple, ban it from ALL public places, including our publicly owned roads and freeways.

Make it unlawful to smoke around all children, or anywhere they frequent, such as their home, or the family car, Because after all, if we can legislate against smacking, we can surely legislate against passive smoking.

Problem solved, except, where do we fill the revenue void left behind!

I would suggest that you look up the definition of "boost" and review your comment.

As far as clamping down on smoking, all of the low-hanging fruit were picked many years ago. I fail to see why the taxpayer is still stumping up $$ for bureaucrats to justify their jobs in anti-smoking councils and the like. Similarly the non-productive bureaucratic nags of road safety and a multitude of other drains on the bucket of taxpayers' $$ should be done away with.

Honestly, when will there be a proper review of the multitude of committees, qangos and NGOs that swing from the guvvy teats at all levels of government and produce SFA but self-serving public relations bumpf?

Jolly good jobs if you can get them, eh?
