I am expecting sometime soon an edict from On high to be handed down to the effect that ANZAC is too divisive for a multicultural society and should be turned into just another HARMONY DAY.
Think I'm joking...it's probably already on the Human Rights Commission or Multicultural Councils agenda(s) Posted by SPQR, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 10:26:35 AM

Dear O Sung Wu,
ANZAC Day - Is it still valid for Veterans? I can't speak on behalf of Veterans. However information found on the web tells us that "record numbers attended ceremonies at the Australian War Memorial on Anzac Day 2013 with 35,000 attending the Dawn Service, and a further 17,000 attending the National Ceremony." I think to many Australians Anzac Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing in Gallipoli in 1915. It's more than just a "holiday." It's a day set aside to remember all Australians who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peace keeping operations. They deserve not to be forgotten. My father-in-law used to take part in the March through the city. He passed away some time ago. However, his legacy lives on in his son and our children. The human qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, will continue to have meaning and relevance for us and our sense of national identity. Posted by Foxy, Tuesday, 22 April 2014 10:31:18 AM

Anzac day will always hold a special place in my heart and, if the invited guests ever try to ban that as well, look out I say, but I do agree that they have more than likely got it in their sights.

Or do many of us arise early for the dawn service, and later watch the Veterans as they proudly march by with chests brimming with medals, some with severely bent backs, trying to be held relatively straight, as they march past the haunting spectre of the Cenotaph, in Martin Place ?
Personally, I wonder if this will be my last ANZAC Day ? I now carefully refrain from meeting anybody I served with, and of course I can no longer march anymore. The vociferous 'after march' pilgrimage to the local Pub for our reunion, tends to unnerve me. Whereas in previous years, I really enjoyed it. I wonder what's happened in the intervening years, to precipitate this complete reversal ?
