Jesus as was St Nicholas are real people and represent a spiritual dimension to the human spirit. The spirit of giving of oneself for the needy. Commercialism is focused on getting, Santa represents the spirit of generosity. May the spirit of generosity overcome the mean and selfish spirit in our World.
Is generosity a myth we need to abandon? Until you have given to enhance another with joy you have not understood Christmas. Posted by Josephus, Wednesday, 25 December 2013 7:16:52 PM

Wikipedia “According to the vitae Boniface felled the Donar Oak, Latinized by Willibald as "Jupiter's oak," near the present-day town of Fritzlar in northern Hesse. According to his early biographer Willibald, Boniface started to chop the oak down, when suddenly a great wind, as if by miracle, blew the ancient oak over. When the god did not strike him down, the people were amazed and converted to Christianity.”
In the Northern hemisphere winters were cold as snow and Ice covered the ground; so the first sign of life was noticed in that Giant oak tree and it was assumed the gods slept during winter now awoke as life emerged. When Boniface cut down the deciduous Oak tree at its base a young pine tree emerged and from it he preached that the Christian God never slumbers or sleeps. That is one reason an ever green pine tree is used to indicate it remains through all seasons; thus breaking the belief in a pagan solstice festival. Similarly Boniface was outraged at a custom where a pudding was made containing nuts and dried fruits and a coin was placed into it, to determine the child that was to be sacrificed to the god to awaken him from his winter slumber. It was changed under Christian custom to now represent a child that was blessed because his life was specially saved by God Posted by Josephus, Wednesday, 25 December 2013 8:02:18 PM

Josephus...very nice words....and the whole structure which bring us all into the 21 century at the point of ALL having, the right by the constitutions, to all have our rights to say, regardless of threats how ever great or small....OUG....you better start with killing all scientists, or better...since your mind is only just short of.
"With every new born baby evolution adds one more distinction to the human species"...so in mathematical terms, one will be along soon. Jesus I mean. Planet3 Posted by PLANET3, Wednesday, 25 December 2013 8:59:34 PM

To answer your question, I believe Santa is merely just another part of a young child's mythical childhood, similar to that of fairies and superman etc. I believe, as a father and grandfather, that children should be allowed to be children and slowly grow out of their childish ways in their own time, and in their own way, progressing naturally into the next phase of their life. Time enough they should be compelled to confront life's tougher challenges. While they're little children, it's Santa and anything else they may wish to pretend, in their childlike imagination !
