Dear Belly,

Of course, my link to the Greens is not a passion. I support them because I agree with their policies more than I agree with the policies of any other party. I think that is the only legitimate reason to support a party.

When Keating won the 'unwinnable' election I was glad because I wanted Labor to win that election. When Keating said it was a victory for 'true believers' I felt betrayed. I have never voted for any party because I am a true believer. I vote for a party because I think they offer a better or less bad alternative than their opponents.

Mathematics tells the truth. Certainly it does if the numbers are accurate. However, there is no truth beyond the numbers. In Germany Hitler came to power by a democratic election. That did not mean Hitler was right, that the Nazis were right or that the German people were wise. All it meant was that the Nazis were popular at that time. The Weimar Republic was unpopular, and most Germans were glad to get rid of it. Those are facts that the numbers tell.

In a democratic country we accept the result of elections as what most people want. That does not mean that what most people want is wise, just or reasonable.

I see neither Rudd nor Abbott as statesmen or decent human beings. As with most other elections I will hold my nose and vote for the lesser evil.

However, that is no reason for being rude to you.

David in my youth I went to Tassy to voice my outrage at the Lake Pedder travesty. Later I watched conservationists chain themselves to machines and trees to stop old growth logging. These people were green. They had the “Silent Spring” spirit.

The current lot of inner city imbeciles who form the crux of the current Green Party are doing it to be different and cool. The reason I say this is the fact that CSG has been given only lip service from the Greens, they uselessly bleat about it on their web page, useless because they do not have the numbers to legislate against it.

Why are only the landholders and farmers physically protesting about it at the coal face so to speak? Why have not the Green pollies chained themselves to the drilling equipment in the traditional style of in your face protests…..why?....because they are not green.

They are exactly the same as the current Labor party, you have to judge them on results, not what they say.

Well to all 3 posts under mine I have to again talk about reality.
It seems probable the Liberals will win this election.
The press madness is getting support from working class Australians.
And it is always them, who toss Labor out.
A mixed and confused Senate will be a side issue.
And lead to?
A double dissolution of Parliament.
That will test small party,s and the will of this country.
Things like Climate change action, still off the greatest importance, will not pass the senate , not until and maybe not then, after the DD election.
In part, those fleeing both majors to small party,s, will get the chance to die at their own hands.
Being nothing but the hiding place for refugees from majors is no reason to damage the whole county.
This hung Parliament has done that.

Belly>> The press madness is getting support from working class Australians.

China the plebs have had enough, and I believe they are throwing out the personalities rather than the party. Get representatives of the people back instead of politician /lawyers and the party will come back.

Belly>> Things like Climate change action, still off the greatest importance, will not pass the senate<<

The other day I viewed a promo on TV with horrid images of flooding and high seas. The accompanying verbiage told us that the seas were rising and mentioned Sydney as well as other seaboard cities. In a recent thread on sea level rises I quoted the past ten years of tidal records for Fort Dennison in Sydney Harbour…..the figures were lower than the average over the past decade……Belly where is the sea rising….not down our way, unless the port authority is lying there has been no rise in sea levels around here .

Dear sonofgloin,

I agree with you. The Greens do not always give first priority to green causes. I am staying with them and pushing for them to give the care of the environment and such activities as stopping CSG first. If they continue not to do so I will leave. My first concern is what is happening to our planet. I will stay with the Greens only as long as I think they care about that.
