It was reported only 10 of the refugees on Nauru did not take part in the riot.

The damage estimate is around $60 million dollars, police have arrested around 129 people in connection to the damage and riot.

My question is what action should the Government take against ALL the people involved?

My opinion is the 10 who did not get involved should be bought to Australia and the rest deported or absolutely never let into Australia and make them live in tents with no air conditioners for as long as they are on Nauru.

Segregate them from any newly built facilities so they do not destroy them as well.

Phillip,
Agree with what you say but judging on the past penalties, that will not happen.

If the charges are not dropped, the offenders will simply be told they are naughty boys and let off.

Phil S great maths
There are 545 male detainees at Nauru, and 129 have been identified as involved in the riot. They are being held at the Police watch house.
545-129 = 10?

The ringleaders are expected to be charged with affray and property damage. As it should be. These asylum seekers see themselves as being in a state of Limbo on Nauru and are venting their frustrations in this dangerous manner, which cannot be condoned. Immigration Minister Tony Burke says those responsible will be subject to the criminal laws of Nauru and could face severe penalties. A court of law is the proper place to deal with this, no where else.

Paul1405 - Obviously a refugee advocate.

A report earlier stated 10 people were not involved, I included that in my post to indicate not ALL were involved and that some were of good character.

The rest were involved just because they were not charged does not mean they were less culpable it just means they were not identified as ringleaders or they were not identified as causing damage, but they did escape custody so they potentially could have been charged.

So not bad math just police not wanting to arrest 535 people and have more trouble on there hands. Which you know, police do not arrest everyone in these situations usually only the ringleaders.

A good try a deflecting the argument as an advocate but not this time.

PhillipS,

All of the internees implicated in the riot should be deported.

But I'll bet you it wont happened, going on past incidents --this is far from the first such case --there might be a few tokenistic deportations but the majority will be lightly tapped on the hand and told they are forgiven

There is another aspect of the riot which is worthy of note: the assistance provide by the locals Nauruans to the centres staff and police. They apparently ringed the fences to ensure no one escaped.

If a similar riot happening on the Oz mainland. The centre would be ringed by a phalanx of refugee advocates trying to help the rioters escape.

It says a lot about how years of enforced political correcting intimidation has impacted on our population

Except, our courts of law have shown a tendency to play politics, as in: "We don't want to jeopardize your asylum claim so the court will only impose a light sentence...you naughty boy you"

Paul1405,
Ideally yes but our Law people have proven to saturation point that they're incapable of doing that. So, where from here ?
I suggest the Australian Government buy those old boats off the indonesian people smugglers & give them to those invaders & let them sail into the blue yonder. Maybe they can find some uninhabited islands somewhere & be happy ever after. They'll just have to start fighting amongst themselves as soon as they get that urge so peculiar to them. Natural attrition will ensure, problem greatly reduced & continuing to reduce.
