60 mills would help a lot of unfortunate Australians ! Think about that when you cast your vote next federal election. Think about all the other wastage also.

Philip S,

Why resurrect the facilities? Let them live in the results of their destruction. If they want shelter, let them erect their own makeshift ones! Food? Give them rice and beans, and tell them to cook their own. Cheap, filling, and what they're used to 'back home'.
Surely this would prove a deterrent as soon as word got out [via their cell phones and internet] that we've stopped being a soft touch, and are no longer willing to play rich uncle indulging their expectations of a never-ending indolent work free lifestyle.

Seems they don't have any regard for what is given to them so freely, and this is just another example of what we've seen them do in other countries when they don't get their own way - riot, burn and do as much harm to others as they can. DISGUSTING!

And this is paid for with our taxes!

And the 'bleeding hearts' still want them treated with kid gloves?

Well, we now see that this has proved to be a dismal failure, so it's time they too deal with the reality that these men do not deserve compassion. They have committed arson, and our laws have harsh penalties for that.

Interesting legal issues here.
Nauru is a sovereign state.
It does not belong to Australia.
Unless these camps are actually gazetted as diplomatic posts Australia has to rely on the Nauru legal system, which is pretty primitive, to prosecute these people.
Let us say these people are convicted and sentenced to imprisonment. Where do they go to prison? If the are fined. Who pays the fine?
Perhaps we can give then suspended sentences or good behavior bonds.
Who supplies the parole and probation services to police these orders.
Are the any of these people under 18 and if so are there Juvenile Justice officials on the island to exercise the Youth Justice Act of the Naurian Government. What! They don't have one.
The whole thing is ludicrous and corrupt to the core.

chrisgaff1000 - Quote "The whole thing is ludicrous and corrupt to the core."

What is ludicrous is that these scum are taking our good will and kicking us back, $60 Million think how many schools that could have built.
Give them tents that way it is easier and cheaper to replace, after all that is exactly what the UN give them.

NOT ONE of those involved should set foot on Australian soil.

They are under Nauru legal system and I hope the Government of Australia do what they said last time there was a riot on Nauru give them NO legal aid.

We can't give them legal aid.
They are not Australian citizens or recognized under our constitution. Let the UN fund their legal bills.

chrisgaff1000 - Regretably you are wrong the legal aid bill for the ones in Australia runs into the millions every year, taxpayers even fund the high court challenges.

This is something Rudd needs to change.
