Wayne Swan is out there publicly stating his education package is aimed at making school goods more affordable.

Now given that many schools today have uniform shops, why then can't school goods be provided, free of charge, as opposed to handing out the cash, as history shows much of this is likely to be spent or wasted elsewhere.

This is why W Swans idear is little more than a sugar hit.

I would also suggest the advertising from retailers, etc, will ramp up, as they all try to secure their share of this cash splash.

Wanyne Swan and Co must think we are all fools.

it makes sense..
they so love free govt cash
something for barely anything...[just like the splash
cash gobbled up and banked..in a flash]..not top down trickle affect

too much govt funding..to capitalists

The cash splash is going to produce a surplus. You can't get much farer than that.
Small business has missed out on their cup of coffee, but they want it.

Governments like to target education funding increases because the recepients (students) are not around long enough to see if there is actually an improvement in this area (there isnt), same for hospitals (this they like because they can then justify a raise in your medicare levy).

If you wish to ease the cost of living burdens for those struggling, including many middle income eaners, then the last thing you should do is give them cash, a it is too easy to waste and, once it's gone, it's gone.

An alternative, if labor actually wanted to help with education costs, as they have said, would be to provide cards, similar to the ones that were used for 'tools of trade', whereby the funds can only be used to purchase school goods.

Further proof that this is simply a sugar hit.
