Watching the Carl Williams saga on TV makes me wonder what's wrong with affording an inmate the same level of security that the inmate afforded to his/her victim/s.

Two wrongs dont make a right comes to mind. An eye for an eye makes us all blind seems fitting as well. Lowering ourselves to the level of the criminals will only result in the destruction of our own morality.

Yes, and let's do medical experiments on them while they're in there too!

mikk is right. It is not up to prisons to mete out punishment or to play judge and jury with inmates. Our institutions should be beyond reproach and strive to be better than those they incarcerate. Anything less is verging on anarchy.

capital punishment would reduce the number of innocents killed and reduce the cost dramatically for the tax payer.

Mikk & Pelican,
I agree with your sentiments & they have a good philosophical ring to it. From a realistic viewpoint however, how often do you see justice being done to the victim's satisfaction ?
If cold blooded criminals get a dose of their own medicine than jail security is adequate. It is up to the judiciary to ensure that no innocents are sent to jail. It is up to us to ensure we have a judiciary that is beyond reproach. There's an election ahead, do your bit.
