I am an addict of olo. Lately I have been trying to cut down the time I spend with this addiction. I get satisfaction when I read a comment that my posts are reasoned. I should be secure enough not to need that, but I'm not.

In my youth I spent a couple of nights a week at the local, giving all and sundry the benefit of my conjectures, whether they liked it or not.
This is safer.
And cheaper.
And they can't see you coming.
And I have no interest in watching sport on TV; so who else can I talk to?

Lovely to see you around David and your posts are a joy to read. I think we should give three cheers for Mikk and maybe a group beating for Houel. After we’ve patched him back up I reckon a round of appreciative applause for Col would be in order about now. And thank you for the warning OUG. Grim I agree, sport has nothing on this.

I found these, which I think are the first General Posts and I am told (being of neophyte status) that the General Discussion Area came a couple of years after the Articles:

Just a question and I wanted to see what people thought. With all the problems worldwide, which is largely due to racial and ethnic conflict and has roots on religious levels, is Australia due for a large scale of conflict? Seeing as though we are a very multicultural nation, which has those of Aussie, American, Arabic, European and Asian people, is it possible global issues will cause troubles on our own soil?

Congratulations on the first post of the forum since it has been open to everyone, not just beta testers.

I think we are already seeing influences of international conflicts on domestic events - take the current terrorism trials. So I'm not sure what you are asking. Is it whether we will have a civil war anytime in the foreseeable future? I don't think so.

BTW, we're doing a feature on what makes someone an Australian in a month or so, but I can't see why "American, Arabic, European and Asian people" who live here can't be "Aussie".

And the rest is history.[smile]

I don't access OLO at work but I enjoy reading what people think and why. OLO gives me the outlet to be opinionated.

I confess I sometimes adopt a strike and run attack while working on another document so occasionally I read back over a post and think - geesh I could have 'said' that much better.

I admire Fractelle's talent at saying exactly what I am thinking sometimes but nailing the wording and phrasing just right without waffle.

OLO may not be a true litmus test for the populace (or maybe it is) but it is interesting to hear what others think about various issues and it can become addictive if you don't self-monitor.

And I have just realised I have started three paragraphs on this post with the word "I" which is always a bad thing. :(
