Send "Do They Know Its Christmas" recorded on November 25, 1986

It's Christmastime
There's no need to be afraid

At Christmastime,..we let in light and we banish shade

And in our world
of plenty...we can spread a smile...of joy
Throw your arms around the world...at Christ-mass-time

But..say a prayer

Pray...for the other ones
At Christmastime it's hard,
but when you're inside..[youyrself]..and just having fun

There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear

Where the only water flowing
is the bitter sting of tears

And the Christmas bells that ring there
are the clanging
chimes of doom
Well tonight
thank God
it's them/..s-him.......instead of..offing...you

And there won't be snow in Africa
this Christmastime
The greatest gift they'll get this year
..is their...own...life

(Oooh)
Where nothing ever grows
No rain's..nor river flow's

Do they know...it's Christ-mass-time...at all?

(Here's to you)...raise a glass for everyone

(Here's to them)...underneath that burning sun

Do they know it's Christ-mass-time..at all?

Feed...the....wor-lllld
Feed...the world

Feed the..world/word/s/words/the word the world

Let them know...it's Christ-mass-time...again

Feed...the world
Let them know....
it's Christ
mastime
again

repeat
then
fade
love ya grumpy

Sorry to come in posting off-topic, but this thread has become embarrassing for me. I thank OUG for the kind thought (or is it a remote-sensing diagnosis?) as to the presence of the old Spanish Dancer, but to my knowledge it is not around. OUG's possible Australo-Dutch antecedents worry me a bit, though. What if old Dirk Hartog, in exchange for his pewter dinner-plate, abducted a kadaitcha-man, took him back to Holland, and there subsequently came to be a line of Australo-Dutch descendants that inherited kadaitcha skills? Maybe OUG him-fella have him Koori blood! Maybe him-fella try sing stone longa my guts!

Seriously, I had not intended to be so long absent from the opinionating lists, so I did not post any notice of intended absence as it now seems I should have done. It is just that conditions this winter have been perfect for some long-intended fire hazzard reduction on and around the bush block on which I reside. It has been sunrise, sunset: one day just following another, raking up litter and dead leaves; one sere now yielding to another, in amongst the all-surrounding trees.

And then before one knew it, day after day, it had become beer o'clock.

It is not good for the literary reputation to compile posts after beer o'clock.

Bronwyn wonders how Belly knows that: "We have lost many to cancer, some of our best contributors." One example comes to mind, that of the late Steve Madden. His demise was advised by his partner, in the opening post of the topic 'In Memoriam' on Thursday, 26 April 2007, under the userID of jmAD. See: http://forum.onlineopinion.com.au/thread.asp?discussion=575&page=0#10938

Interestingly, Steve Madden's first post on OLO was a comment to the OLO article 'On the question of community: blogs and belonging' ( http://www.onlineopinion.com.au/view.asp?article=3897 ). Steve's first brief but helpful OLO post is here: http://forum.onlineopinion.com.au/thread.asp?article=3897#22834

Good thoughts Bronwyn.

Children on the streets using guns and knives
Taking drugs and each other`s lives
Killing each other using knives and forks
And calling each other names like dork

There`s people on the street getting diseases from monkeys
Yeah that`s what I said, their getting diseases from monkeys
Whys this happening, please, whose been touching these monkeys
Leave these poor sick monkeys alone
There sick, they`ve got problems enough as it is

A man is lying on the street, some punk has chopped off his head
And I`m the only one who stops to see if he`s dead, aaoohhh
Turns out he`s dead

That`s why I`m singing, Aaaaoooh what is wrong with the world today?
What`s wrong with the world today, *mumbles* never said nothings wrong with it
Uooo, what is wrong with the world today?
Think about it, think about it, think, think about it

Good cops get framed and put into a can
And all the money that we`re making is going to the maaan

What man, whose the man, when`s a man a man, why`s it so hard to be a man
Am I a man? Yes, technically, yes.

Oohh, come on, sont zootka they`re turning kids into slaves
They`re turning kids into slaves just to make cheaper sneakers
But what`s the real cost, `cause the sneakers don`t seem that much cheaper
Why are we still paying so much for sneakers when you got little kid slaves making them
What are your overheads?

Well, at the end of your life, you are lucky if you die
Sometimes I wonder why I would even try
Why try
I saw a man lying on the street half dead
He had knives and forks sticking out of his leg
He said, Ahh ahh ahh ahhhhhhhhwww
Can somebody get the knife and fork out of my leg, please
Ooh, could somebody please remove these cutleries from my knees
Yeah yeeeahhh

Bronwyn “And Col, getting married - again I think. Well, we can only hope this new woman can bring about a softening and a humility of attitude that so far no-one else has managed to achieve. A tall order I know but I guess it's possible.”

Don’t hold you breath Bronwyne….

She is a “mirror” of me

She describes herself as “vain”, owns a house which includes a ballroom and considers her red Mercedes Kompressor roadster an essential accessory.

As to my “humility of attitude”…. Neither she nor I would have the bald arrogance to comment on your “humility of attitude” or maybe we just have.

And to the more recent run of Ditties….

I sooner gain my kicks
From reciting limericks
Than from rapp,
For which the miter is crap .
Even if you ain’t white
You can still vote “Right”,
Every Rastifarian
Can be a libertarian
Indeed many a black
Of government is jack.
So come on soul brothers
Let show all them mothers
Just how we all feel
About that bunch of “truckers”

(last word changed for the obvious)

Forrest

The lights are on again!

Thanks for the explanation and the links. I'll check them out tonight when I have more time.

I've had a break from OLO too, but I must say it's good to be back. I like having a headful of OLO arguments to carry around with me as I go about my work. I'm sure it would make all that hazard reduction pass much more quickly too, don't you think?

one under god

Thanks for providing the info re the thread. I know the thread you're referring to. Fortunately, I don't have the same urge to check it out now but I probably will at some stage.

Houellebecq

If I knew what you were trying to say, perhaps I'd comment.

Col

You sound perfectly suited. May your egos live happily entwined.
