I agree with those who believe that the "Peak" for artists of all kinds, is subjective. It is something only recognised in retrospect.

The artistic personality strives always for perfection and there is never a time - for most - when they can admit to having achieved it. There is always, therefore, the hope, with each new canvas, book, poem, performance, that this one is going to be "it".

One of the reasons that contributes to this is that Peaks are not necessarily linear. It is undeniable that, months or years after reaching what has been regarded as their "best" work, a creative person suddenly produces a work of sheer genius that eclipses all other efforts.

This possibility is the inspiration of those who continue - in mediocrity often - after what is later established as the peak of their work, I think.

I don't see that there is a Use By date or a time period restriction for the rest of us either. Personally, I have lived an amazing life and there are several highlights that I look back upon at any given point in it.

But I think I would be robbed of any impetus to strive for further education or experiences - or life itself - if I believed that I had got as good as I was ever going to get or that the pinnacle of a lifetime of experiences was behind me.

You are full on aren’t you UOG. So you believe there is One God. You believe in heaven and hell but different hells for different sins? Like Dantes circles? This means that if you forgive and move on you are guessing God will be cool with that? The rules are written where?

Can God Peak? What if all of this creation was created by a God who had already reached the Peak of Godedness, which a whole other universe is enjoying.

Who was the painter that did the “blue period” because of cataracts and when he got his eyes fixed he was a bit horrified and spent some time getting rid of his “blue” paintings? Is that what Romany means by peaking being subjective? Sorry – I should be asking this of Romany but I am having trouble posting and get server errors so throwing everything in to one message.

Isn’t Peaking (nah not the city) only about the big stuff – one talent? Are others even thought of in terms of Peaking if they weren’t gifted in any way?

I know my long distance running days peaked a while back. But my writing continues to improve. And how about musicians? Blues and Jazz musos just go on forever it seems, I managed to catch Miles Davis before he went to Blues heaven.

Many painters continue to produce great works into old age. I guess it all depends on what the talent or skill is. It seems that golfers go on forever too. However, not so for ballet dancers, tennis players or swimmers.
