It is almost too obvious to point out that Trump
supporters really don't care what Trump does.
They don't care if he's guilty. Because he doesn't!

Trump can, as he himself has said - shoot someone on
5th Avenue in New York without any consequences.

And, of course now that he's been found guilty - Trump
will stick to the " It's been rigged," and the
"witch-hunt" line.

BUT - it all does matter.

No one should be above the law.

Trump expects to get away with things. He expects different
treatment from the justice system.

We can only hope that it will not be in the way he wants.

American news sources tell us that in the past 20 years
the justice system in the US has significantly cut the
number of white-collar cases to take to trial, opting for
settlements or fines or other resolutions that often
feel like justice for the wealthy and influential.

The perpetrators do profit and harm is done.

The Los Angeles Times writes that in 2021, losses from
white collar crime was somewhere between - $426 billion
and $1.7 trillion.

Hi Paul,

I think that Joe Biden is only running to keep Trump out
of office. I'm sure should he win, he will resign not
long after. I think the man has had enough.

However, at least he is a man with vast political expertise
and he does consult and listen to advice. He will not
drag the US down an authoritarian anti-democratic fascist
path.

I would prefer a cup of hot cocoa to a nuclear war.

A U.S. post conviction poll shows the support for Donald Trump has risen by 1%. No change for Joe Biden. The Trump campaign received $52 million in donations the day of the conviction.

51% of Americans said that the trial was politically motivated.
54% of Americans said the trial should have been moved to avoid New York bias.

Foxy showing that she understands the issues around the trial in the same way as my budgie understands Newton's laws of motion (ie not at all) thinks that the trial was about white collar crime and theft of money - "The perpetrators do profit and harm is done."

Fool. There was never any accusation of theft. No one lost any money. No one profited. None of that is even remotely true. Not remotely true. And not remotely what the trial was about.

I'd try to explain the essence of the case and the trial to Foxy but I know she neither cares nor has the capacity to understand it just like she could never understand the exoneration of Pell.

But just once I'd like to see Foxy acknowledge that she got it utterly wrong so that we could see that she has some sort of moral code. But instead we'll just see her move on to the next moronic claim and pretend she knows what she's talking about

Venezuela
May 2017 – Venezuela Supreme Court targeted

The US Treasury sanctioned Venezuela‘s chief judge and seven other members of the country’s Supreme Court of Justice as punishment for seizing powers from Venezuela’s opposition-led National Assembly in early 2017.
The judges had their assets frozen within US jurisdiction, and the US barred American citizens from doing business with them.

August 2017 – Sanctions imposed on bonds and oil

On August 25, the US Treasury restricted the trading of Venezuelan bonds sold by Venezuela’s government in US financial markets. The Treasury also prohibited US financial institutions from engaging in new purchases or trade with Venezuela’s state oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).

May 2018 – Maduro ally sanctioned

On May 18, the US sanctioned former Venezuelan government official Diosdado Cabello Rondon – regarded as an ally of President Nicolas Maduro, and considered the second most powerful person in the country after Maduro – for “narcotics trafficking, money laundering, embezzlement of state funds, and other corrupt activities”.

January 2019 – More oil sanctions

Following opposition figure Juan Guaido’s self-proclamation as the interim president of Venezuela on January 23, the US hit PDVSA with sweeping sanctions in a move aimed at pressuring Maduro to cede power to his opponents.
The sanctions stopped PDVSA from collecting the proceeds of oil exported to US customers, while also freezing the assets of PDVSA’s units, including Citgo, its US-based subsidiary.

April 2019 – Central Bank of Venezuela banned

On April 17, the US sanctioned the Central Bank of Venezuela “to prevent it from being used as a tool of the illegitimate Maduro regime”.
Venezuela’s Minister of Popular Power for Foreign Affairs Jorge Alberto Arreaza Montserrat was sanctioned on April 26.
“Treasury will continue to target corrupt Maduro insiders, including those tasked with conducting diplomacy and carrying out justice on behalf of this illegitimate regime,” Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said.

August 2019 – Government assets embargoed

Trump signed an executive order imposing an economic embargo against Venezuela, freezing all Venezuelan government assets in the US and barring transactions with the country’s authorities.
“Every country that has investments in the US should be very worried because this sets a dangerous precedent against private property,” Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said in response to the sanctions.
