Hi Fester,

You object to Indigenous representation to parliament on the grounds that they would have some "special opportunity" not afforded to ordinary Australians. Do you also object to those individuals and vested interest group that now have "special opportunity" to make representation to government, individuals like 'Twiggy' Forrest, The Mining Council, ACTU, Employer organisations. They certainly have far more access to politicians and government than you or I. Put simply politicians/government need to be informed by others outside of politics, it leads to hopefully better government. Since there is no veto powers, or binding powers, I see nothing wrong with 'The Voice'.

If the referendum fails and there is every possibility it will, just as if it succeeds, it wont be the end of democracy in Australia.

Hi Paul,

Andrew Forest has recognition for his demonstrated ability, not his ancestry. Similarly, private organisations of citizens with common interests can make representations to parliament. This is an opportunity open to all Australians. What the referendum proposes is the recognition of a group of Australians on the basis of their heritage and creation of a public body that can make representations for them to parliament.

You might note that indigenous Australians already have a public body that makes representations of their interests to parliament. That body was established by a parliament that represents all Australians. I see no reason to change the status quo.

If you believe anyone born in Australia has lesser link to the land than whose ancestors once lived here 60,000 years ago is delusional. We borne here of ancestors born here have as much links to this country as any present generation. To divide the country on the basis of one's ancestry undermines unity and equality - democracy.

Some want to change Australia day, but do not recognize all new Citizens that have taken out citizenship do on the 26th January, and that day means a historical milestone in their journey.

The Western Australian Government has introduced "The Cultural Heritage act" which means anyone doing groundwork on their land must employ an aboriginal elder at $160 per hour to ensure that it is not affecting cultural sensitivities. This includes farmers cultivating their land and fencing as well as mining. All the primary producers who supply food and products from mining are affected by this bill. If the Voice gets up it will be rolled out across the nation. VOTE NO TO STOP LABOUR DESTROYING THIS COUNTRY.

Josephus,

You really do come across as a lying miserable little git spreading the disinformation you are fed far and wide. A useful idiot for some of the most powerful in the country.

Your last post has you at it again.

You claim: "anyone doing groundwork on their land must employ an aboriginal elder at $160 per hour to ensure that it is not affecting cultural sensitivities."

No it isn't everyone is it. It only applies to those in already identified culturally sensitive areas. It is a sensible law which will hopefully stop mining companies blowing up significant site with gay abandon.

Most people support putting better controls in place to stop such egregious acts. However you aren't most people are you. You are little more than a regurgitator of crap.

This isn't facebook.

Give it a miss.
