I agree with you Maclean. I just watched Julia Roberts in the 'Mona Lisa Smile' what a fabulous movie ! The closest movie NK has ever done which would have similiar depth would be The Hours but even in that movie her acting came across disjointed as usual.

You know wakings, an amusing thing happened today, I saw this preview of a movie, which stars meryl streep, glenn close, claire danes... and a few other actesses, i cant rememeber, but a line in this movies preview proclaimed..." starring the greatest actresses in this generation" and I immediatley was so relieved that kidman wasnt in this movie, I would have lost my lunch otherwise...

LOL, Maclean that would have made my stomach churn as well. Notice how these actresses don't need to do 4 movies a year to keep their profile going.

Well, the fact is, kidman is a terrible liablity to movie releasing schedules... She has no box office appeal at all they can draw on, the release dates are then even more difficult, and they just become glutted. She is in 3 movies this year, one coming out in Aug., the 2nd one in Nov. and the 3rd only a month later in Dec, all 3 within 5 months apart. The same thing happened a few years ago... when Human Stain and Cold Mountain came out, the first came out in oct, and the 2nd in Dec. Because human stain bombed when it was shown at the venice and toronto film festivals earlier in the year, they postponed the release a couple of times, and eventually dumped it on halloween day, the worst day of the year!... it only made 4 million dollars. Its like they just decide to throw her movies out together and just move on.

What I don't understand is why she continues to make movie after movie. Her box office appeal-at least here in the states-is horrible. If you ask around most people don't even consider her a decent actress. She can't carry a film all on her own. Yet...she makes a ridiculous amount of money and continues to work full time. You would think that by now, studios would stop offering her any scripts, even the poor ones.

I have been puzzling over this too. And I know I'm harping on again about the children, but it is the other thing that really puzzles me. She is a hopeless mother, rarely sees her kids, commits transparent acts like the half- a -minute blow-in visit to the childrens' hospital the day before her wedding followed by the notified media, yet no journalist seems to be able to see through her. Nobody is game enough to write an article on just how bad an example she sets for young girls re motherhood, caring etc. If it were anybody else, it would be constantly written about. I am truly puzzled by this. And by the way, did any of you see that photographer Jamie Fawcett was this week cleared of all charges of placing a bugging device outside her Sydney house? He has been proved innocent but hasn't been given any large reportage space written about his innocence, yet the incident was front page and headline news when charged with it.
