Israel-Hamas war affirms the indispensability of a two-state solution : Comments

By Alon Ben-Meir, published 8/12/2023

Unless Israel establishes an endgame strategy that will lead to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the war against Hamas will only be another brutal violent episode.

Agree! The negotiating parties should be locked in a room until they have come to an agreement, they can all live with!

A two-state solution is the only game in town with a snowflakes chance in hell of success.

Again, a very thoughtful article with suggested ways forward that could be a long sought journey on a path towards a sensible two-state solution. Human lives, both Palestinian and Israeli, are at stake in this conflict. Here in Australia we need to get past the cold-blooded 'no restraint' response of Peter Dutton on the human toll involved in the overwhelming IDF bombing of Gaza.

A two state resolution of the conflict has been offered to the Palestinians 5 times over the past 70 years. They've rejected it each time and generally followed that rejection with violence.

Nothing has changed enough to warrant any hope that they'd accept a genuine two state offer this time.

While ever the Arabs think they can get everything between the river and sea they'll continue to reject any two-state offers.

The author speaks of "the Palestinians with their aspiration for statehood" - there never was any such aspiration.
He also warns that "Israel will continue to exist but live by the gun" - something no peace agreement(s) could stop anyway.

Since [a semblance of] peace seems in the interest of most of the majority of the world, rather than of the sides to this "conflict", the onus is on those who want it to bring it about: no silly "negotiations" between the disinterested parties, just order Israel to leave its occupied territories OR ELSE and the Arabs to stop their hostilities OR ELSE, then give both sides economic carrots for obeying and threaten them with big military/nuclear sticks if they fail to obey, that's all!

In the Pentagon there are a number of scenarios to solve this conflict. One is to nuke the joint, including Iraq and Iran, with neutron bombs and turn it into a sea of glass without destroying the infrastructure.

Then move in in around six months and claim any oil and gas. They do that and everybody else is going to keep their heads down least they suffer the same fate,

All two-state options by Israel have been rejected by the Arabs. The two-state idea is dead in the water. Genocide of Jews is all Hamas and its backers are interested in. What is it that people don't understand about 'from the river to the sea Palestine will free'!
