Party members breaking ranks might break the Liberals : Comments

By Scott Prasser, published 24/4/2023

Julian Leeser himself says he remains a loyal Liberal. This seems at odds with his behaviour.

Leeser has no idea of 'loyalty'. He is a career politician and show pony who thinks only of himself. He should resign and try his luck as an independent at the next election, or go now and get a proper job.

Leeser's sort has wrecked the Liberal Party over the last decade. The hierarchy has allowed them to get away with it, and members and voters have left in droves.

The Liberals won't recover from their stupidity any time soon, and we will be left with an extreme Left government that even fewer voters wanted as first choice, thanks to our ridiculous preferential voting system, which needs replacing if democracy is to be regained.

'Tis good to know that not everyone in the Libs is sufficiently "loyal" to put party before country.
It might yet save them from electoral oblivion.

ttbn,
Our voting system is the best in the world, and makes it much harder for those with extreme positions to get elected.

Sir Robert Menzies often spoke of the dangers arising from centre-left parties imposing a collectivist, inflexible and inefficient approach to public policy and governance.

He is proved right every time we get Socialists in power. But, of course, Menzies could not have known that much the same could be said about his own party in the 21st. Century.

Australia is finished unless the far-too-silent majority starts to make a noise and demand a far better class of person in Canberra than the rubbish we now have.

Party members breaking ranks might break the Liberals. And a good thing if it happens.

Which would oblige the party to take a good long hard look at itself and current swing to the far right.

Which could sound its demise as a party that can ever win an election, let alone command enough preferences to get the Nats over the line in many seats.

So, it's not just the party at risk but the coalition.

The moderates need to consider their position and whether their personal political prospects would be enhanced as TEALS.

Footnote: People from the far-right minor minority might go ballistic and bananas at this outcome, but, will never ever form government from their far-right position!

The people have already come to their senses and have decided they don't like neo Nazis, white supremists, racists and an assorted medley of fellow traveller nut jobs.

Well said, Dan: «Whoops….Democracy raises its ugly head.»

If MPs are not supposed to cross the floor as they represent the wishes of their constituents (bloody joke of course), then why do they need to be repeatedly flown to Canberra? why can't one person represent them all (preferably a Canberrean local)? why do we need to keep paying all their air+accommodation fares, plus for the upkeep of that big parliament-building itself?

Surely we have better things to finance than that expensive pretence of democracy!

I never realised you had moved so far to the radical ratbag left Alan.

Only a ratbag lefty could believe the Libs have moved too far right. Their problem is they have become a Labor lite, & are so far left many true conservatives have deserted them. Only as left leaning party could elect a Turnbull to leadership. Fortunately many of the wets are gone, but is it enough to salvage the party?

I fully approve of party members being able to cross the floor on issues they really believe in, it is a strength of the Libs. I can't believe the entire membership of the current government agree with Albos made rush to the left, but the party demands their silence.

We can only hope there are enough real Ozzies left in the country to chuck the ratbags out next election, If there aren't the country will very soon be a very weak reflection of what it once was.

How many believe we could today raise a militia of kids such as defended us on the Kokoda track?

Leeser has been a prominent supporter of the Voice for years. It would be utter hypocrisy for him now to toe the party line and campaign against it. And although he has expressed concern about the wording proposed by the government, it is perfectly reasonable to conclude that voting for an imperfect model is a lesser evil than voting against it. Prominent conservative lawyer Greg Craven takes much the same position.

Unlike Labor, the Liberals did not take a position on the Voice to the electorate at the last election, and its is not even clear that they would oppose the Voice if it were designed differently. It is hardly disloyal to continue to maintain a long-held position on a matter of principle even if your party subsequently decides to oppose it. As the article points out, this is much more common in the Liberal Party than the Labor Party and is actually one of its strengths, exemplifying small-l liberal values.

I have yet to make up my mind on the Voice, but I respect the integrity of someone willing to resign from a prominent and powerful position on a matter of principle. We need more politicians like this, not less.

It's clear Australian's want progressive leadership, with progressive policies. The days of the 'Pig Iron' Bob Party and their staid conservatism are well and truely behind us. Its been a peaceful political revolution in this country. The true liberals of today have spoken loud and clear at the ballot box. As the 'Pig Iron' Bob Party can't heed the message, its time for it to disappear up its own arse hole. I for one am not sadden in anyway by their failure, it's to be expected, their conservative 19th century thinking can't exist in the progressive 21st century world of today.

‘Progressive’ There’s yet another misconception as it wrongly implies a positive. We’re progressing towards that cliff instead of progressively moving away from it. And, that is a definite negative so far as society is concerned.
The more we progress towards the future the more it will become obvious that conservative discipline is vital. The hanger-on component of society will desperately portray restraint as a conservative negative in order to not lose the grip on the teat but lose it many will as the productive progressive I.e. the revenue makers are getting pushed too far !

indy,
A lot of conservatives are paranoid about cliffs that aren't actually there. They fail to understand that the hangers on and the productive are the same people in different stages of their lives. Nor do they understand that help, not abandonment, enables people to become much more productive.

'Progressive' rightly implies a positive: the inclusion of everyone!

Indy,

As you now being a non-productive I can understand your reluctance to embrace change, when life has become so free and easy for you for so many years at taxpayer expense.

What Rhain and Paul said.

Hasbeen. Good luck with your election wish. Just don't hold your breath!

No, I don't think there's many who would take up arms to defend this country. Why should they when the pollies have sold off so much of it to China and the share of the average young person is SFA.

Or perhaps you believe the homeless and the disenfranchised should take up arms to defend their homes and Chinese investments.

Evidentially Aidan is so indoctrinated he can't see the cliffs, so doesn't understand they are there waiting for the fools.

A perfect example of greenie/progressive stupidity was my grocery delivery last night. It came in 8 of the new greenie inspired paper bags plus a couple of plastic bags for the frozen & chilled stuff. The sweat of these products render paper bags useless.

These bags are heavy of course, they have to be. They even boast on them they are from 60% recycled material. Thus those paper bags had over a kilo of fresh cut wood in them, replacing the 25 grams of polyurethane plastic in the same number of the old single use bags. Great ecological saving there.

The "new" reusable plastic bags are useless things, such a lousy shape they are not even suitable for lining waste paper baskets. So the progressive result.

A kilo of trees wasted.
I now have to buy plastic bin liners on a roll to replace the old single use bags that did the job so well. These are heavier, so more plastic used.

All this because the ratbags decided to attack oil from the plastic drinking straws direction. Will these fools ever learn?

Political commentator, Paul Collits, believes that the Liberals lie about election losses; that there is something in their DNA that "blocks deep introspection", and prevents them from considering "what they have become".

The party has forgotten what it stands for, and desires power only for its own sake, completely uncoupled from any sense of core values or of appeal to ordinary voters.

ttbn- They have favoured business interests when business wasn't serving Australia. Businesses doesn't think generationally but in five or three year profit projections. Productivity is necessary but there seem to be issues with the way- but now they are forced into a corner to be decisive- and they don't know what to do.

The young weren't nurtured into succession cadres and paths. The Liberals failed to invest in PR, they failed to use people such as Hanson in the broad Liberal church to open the public mind to different possibilities spaces, to nullify the suspiciously communist "counter-culture" early enough, to support future businesses, to conduct intelligence into enemy strategy

What CM advocates is a form of extreme faschism based on lies and propaganda from the far right. His claims of "Communist" control are delusional, and he should know it. Asked to name influential communists in Australia, he can name none, as there are none.

Hasbeen,
It may be bad policy but it's hardly a cliff.

How big are those paper bags? The ones I've seen aren't that heavy (and are 70% recycled). But I too am puzzled auto why they didn't opt for like for like replacement with reusable plastic bags.

BTW ITYF the old bags were polythene. Polyurethane would certainly be overkill.

I'm pleased to see the supermarkets have at last started to switch to fully compostabe plastic bags for fruit and vegetables.

And there certainly shouldn't be any need to buy bin liners, as many products (from bread to toilet paper) come packaged in plastic bags that can be used for that purpose).

Answer- Traditionalists are moderates. Traditionalists aren't the extreme far right- Communists like to frame Traditional Western politics as extreme because it manipulates and pushes the Voters (the Overton Window) to the far left. The voters know there's a stink in politics but they're confused. Traditionalist politics was the original "moderate" position.

Traditional Anglo British (and European) people were explorer/ loners- they taught other cultures advanced technology, were self sufficient, independent, resilient- The middle east has always tried to destroy Europe, China believed that they were the centre kingdom
