I think the impeachment process will be all about neutralising Trump's position in the last week and a half of his presidency and creating the circumstances under which he can be investigated and brought to trial on other charges when he has left office.

The Democrats will be out to make sure that Trump will never be able to run for president ever again.

Impeachment will ensure this man can never ever stand again for public office! And restrict his ability to flee the country?

Meaning he can be arrested before he tries to flee? Given this man ha n escape plan?

Other than that, the authorities need to mobilise the home guard and reservists to beef up security in every state capital in preparation for the planned for, armed insurrection? And ought include snipers of every state capital rooftop!

As to the cost? Vastly overwhelmed by the cost of not taking these lunatics seriously and given they show up armed? Shoot to kill those in the lead of these neo-Nazis, KKK and white supremists?

After that, America needs a period of truth and reconciliation/healing! And good economic policies that relieve the economic pressure responsible for many of these folks going over the edge/ taking up arms against democratically elected administrations!?

Crap article expected from an academic who ought to get out of his left wing cocoon and look at evidence and reasons why Trump has strong support. Remember he was elected 4 years ago because Democrats endorsed a party hack (after an almost certainly rigged preselection vote) that many voters regarded as highly toxic. ie Something like "Killary Rotten Clinscum". Now we have Trump opponents claiming he really lost the election who are some combination of dishonest or brainwashed "sheep" trying to maintain it was fair while is enormous amounts of evidence of many types of fraud including some obvious big ones which favored Biden. The mainstream media and Google, Facebook and Twitter have been doing what they can to effectively campaign for Biden and try to censor and discredit lots of stuff coming from Trump. eg Adding comments such as "This claim about election fraud is disputed."
Look at the latest: Twitter announcing permanent closure of Trump's account along with those of some associates. Apparently he had 90 million followers. Undoubtedly millions of them plus more are dumping Twitter as a result and its share value has just dropped 12%. Meanwhile Trump sympathetic social media organizations are having enormous booms in new support.
Seems a major problem Trump has had is many people apparently support him but when it comes to being in a confrontation themselves, find all sorts of excuses to avoid it. Or after receiving abuse, too readily back off instead of continuing to fight. For a start, look at evidence of electoral law breaches and election fraud allegations that should have been dealt with by courts but judiciaries claimed procedural reasons, rather than lack of supposed merit for not hearing cases.

Regarding this proposed impeachment, probasbly even if successful, is unlikely to achieve much regarding hurting Trump, who just said something like "Bring it on". Remember he still holds Presidential powers for another week. Seems possibility he could invoke the Insurrection Act which maybe for a start would involve having his VP Pence arrested for facilitating Congressional approval of fraudulently gained Electoral College votes.

PeterC Firstly, despite what the Democrats and the main stream media falsely claim, President Donald Trump did not incite any violence in the Capitol, from his huge number of supporters. I also wonder just how many of the rioters/wreckers at the Capitol building were actually members of Antifa and also BLM, who infiltrated the Trump supporters.

Over many, many months I have read & followed extensively regarding the massive, massive electoral fraud perpetrated against the American people including the 76 million or so Republican/President Donald Trump supporters.

I have no doubt at all that this Election was a massive, massive fraud against the American people, President Donald Trump and the Republicans.

If this massive and very highly organised fraud is not exposed and reversed with President Donald Trump rightfully re-elected as President and continuing into his second four year term as President, then I do not expect that America and the West will recover.

I expect also that the most unreliable main stream media have or will lose thousands/millions more subscribers.

Trump got a less percentage of the popular vote the previous election, way less than Clinton, so where was your outrage then? Why wasn't that election a massive fraud? Not a peep from you I will wager.
