Sorry Bronwyn you are wrong, Islamic immigrants integrate poorly into Australian society. This is based on the inter marriage rate, by the second generation immigrants such as Vietnamese and Chinese are having a much higher inter marriage rate than Muslims. Australia also experiences a number of so called "honour killings" every year and FGM is common amongst the Muslim communities here. Females are also commonly segregated from males. Not by any stretch it could be considered that this is "fitting in".

Bronwyn,
I think it is obvious to everyone by now that China is looking for a reason to pick a fight with Australia and I think if Scott Morrison decides to open the gate to people from Hong Kong allowing them to flee China and escape to Australia it might be the straw that breaks the camel's back for China. You need to keep in mind that the people of Hong Kong are Chinese citizens who would be breaking China's laws if they flee to Australia and China will see Australia as harbouring subversive criminals against the Chinese State. I think Scott Morrison has to think very carefully about this one because if he sanctions Chinese fleeing China to avoid its laws he might just be inviting an invasion by China who might just see it as an act of war. jimmy2shoes,
If that's the case then why is China so intent on picking a fight with Australia? Posted by Mr Opinion, Saturday, 4 July 2020 4:33:28 PM

Mr O, i think its obvious that China is attempting to replace the US as the dominant force in the Asia pacific region. Australia is seen to be the US "deputy Sheriff" in the region and as such is a target. Divide and conquer, unfortunately their strategy of using economic tactics to make us back down is not working for a couple of reasons. 1. They need us more than we need them, they are almost completely reliant on Australia for resources to run their economy. 2. We do not have a weak leader but one who recognises point 1. In my opinion Morrison has handled this well.
My point about China not being able to invade Australia is not lost on the Chinese, despite geographical hindrances their armed forces do not have much of a reach capability, they may have millions of troops they can use as cannon fodder but without a land border to send them over their numerical advantage is useless. I sense a lot of frustration coming out of Beijing at the moment, they considered Australia to be pliable to their demands and dont know quite what to do now. We are lucky we have a Morrison government at the moment, if someone like Rudd was running the show we would be bent over with sore bums by now. And Keating needs to but out, in his time he took us where we needed to go in Asia and created enormous trade opportunities but these are different times and circumstances. jimmy2shoes,
I found this on the news site this morning: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-07-05/china-and-us-on-collision-course-lessons-from-history/12415316 Alarming stuff. People are starting to realise that putting their trust in the Chinese is a big mistake. It appears that the US and China are both conducting large-scale naval exercises in the South China Sea this month. How many CCP agents and PLA operatives are living in Australia under the pretext of being migrants, all waiting for the thumbs up from Beijing to go into operation on our home soil?
