Landowners should be free to pay bounties or sell licences for hunters, mobile butchers, zoo trappers and tourist safaris on their properties.

Folk who step outside the law, ought not be protected by it!
Alan B,
It can't be said any clearer than that ! Now, if only those over-educated/indoctrinated in the Judiciary could be made to think logically, all would be well !
Legal Aid should not come free for perpetrators.

Property rights. That's what it always comes down to.

Wouldn't be so bad if the state offered landowners agistment payments to graze it's fauna on their land, with the landowner retaining the right to refuse.

My sympathies go to the animals. I also support animal rights activists in their quest for humane treatment of animals in captivity; which is effectively the situation of wild animals, captive in state forests.

I don't support shark culling when shark numbers are known to be in decline. And I don't support tax payers dollars paying for helecopters flopping over the heads of surf board riders, attempting to save the stupid from themselves.

Dan.

Dan, I could disagree with you more, yes DISAGREE!
Did I read you right you are not happy that animals are being treated INHUMANELY by being kept in captivity in state forests?
And did you actually say you are against killing sharks, and that their numbers are declining?
I don't think I've said this to an OLOén before, but;
ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FRIGGIN MIND?
You could have abstained from making those comments and we would have thought no less of you, BUT, you couldn't leave well enough alone, now you come off looking like some kind of pillock.
Seriously, ANYONE who puts the welfare of animals before that of humans is unwell and in fact, not to be trusted, in so much as given a situation where the choice was between killing one to save the other, YOU, would not be welcome in that scenario.
Dan, given the choice I would IRRADICATE, make EXTINCT, such egregious animals as sharks, crocodiles, and so on.
ANYTHING that is a threat to humans, is a threat, how on earth can any sane mature adult be so stupid as to put animals before humans.
These moronic minorities need to be extinct as well.
The number of people who have died because of their misguided beliefs is a matter of record.
One incident I was involved in was, I live next door to school which is also home to a 'murder'of crows, who spend avery waking minute calling out FAAARK, FAAARK.
This was not acceptable, considering if I did the same I'd be arrested for using profanities in a public place.
So I call up the govt department responsible for ridding of vermin and other unsavoury animals, in this case crows and the first thing I get is, "Oh you mean a North American Raven".
Then she proceeded to tell me their a protected species, so upon recovering from BS shock, I said, "wait a minute, why is a foreign, introduced species, protected"?
She dismissed me on the grounds that her job was to enforce the law, not make it.
Comments, anyone?

Dan:

Do you eat fish? Are they animals?

As for sharks, but particularly those white pointers. I've come to an arrangement with those mothers. I don't go in their ocean, they don't come on my beach!

Seems an ideal arrangement that works for me!

The last time I went fishing, with my brother and Dad. Had old-style cotton lines attached to a hook/sinker, and from a causeway connecting a beach suburb, with a ten thousand volt feeder line just out beyond the distance, one could cast.

Anyhow, after half a day of feeding fish, my bro decided he'd fix that, tied on an additional sinker, whirled the contraption so fast above his head, he looked like a Huey about to leap skyward. In seconds a salt-laden wet line had wrapped itself around the feeder line.

Looked around to see if the owner of the gear, dad, had noticed, proceeded to tug more vigorously at the line until the JFC,@#%^&* etc! emanating from Father put a stop to his activity.

Dad elbowed him aside, wrapping the line around his hand and unintentionally, around his left foot also. proceeded to tug with all his might, until he managed to sever some of the protective insulation.

Whereupon he started the most disturbing war dance, accompanied by extremely powerful whoops/deafening war cries all done at near light speed! As sparks shot from the hobnails of his left boot.

The more he screamed/roared, it's not funny, the harder we laughed.

Finally, the Bro regained his composure/protected by his rubber boots cut the line/the flow of electrical current through Dad's left foot, allowed the still wet line go. As it hit the water and the incoming tide, fish started bobbing up all over the place, we fished out as many as we could with a small net on a pole.

So, the great fishing expedition was an unparalleled success!

Surprisingly, that was the first and second last time my Father ever took us fishing, can't imagine why that was? It's just so much fun!
Cheers, Alan B.

Well Altrav, I made the comments I did, which expresses my opinion which has chopped and changed through the years, but now rests comfortably inside the perimeter fence as outlined above.

I actually donate to Sea Shepherd, and think that Sea Shepherd are a good example of a private enterprise Navy. One might describe it as an NGO navy.
It was used effectively by our Government to identify and locate illegal fishing activities and vessels throughout "our" oceans, and allowed Governments to step carefully in diplomatic relations with countries such as Japan with their harpooning enterprises.

It's actually good such organisations stand alone from Government, and operate from a position of the majority, and circumvent politics driven by the "petty" and self absorbed, such as yourself, for example, (judging by your dislike of crows).

If I were the poor woman on the end of your complaint, I'd be inclined to tell you to FOW. Did she hang up in your ear? I hope so.

I've worked with animals one way or another through life, and actually have more feelings of affection towards them than towards humans, which flock quite frankly, could be reduced (culled) effectively, by the rise of another Hitler or Starlin, who obviously thought as I do.

Humans are detestable creatures which should be machine gunned from helecopters while going about their daily business on city streets.
People with my attitudes, should be given a permit to spend a leisurely weekend blowing holes in the heads of humans for recreation and fun.
Maybe paid a bounty by the number of lopped off ears presented to a special Government authority for the purpose.
