Security Council and Quartet silence dooms Palestinian two-state solution : Comments

By David Singer, published 12/2/2016

Reacting to 'occupation' can never justify the murder of Israeli civilians in their own homes, shopping in supermarkets, meeting in bars, or waiting at bus stops.

This is no better than the pot calling the kettle black! Surely such killing are reprehensible as are all unjustified killing and murderous revenge or just using some fairy tale rantasy, to rob others of their land, homes and livelihoods, and invariably leading to a very slow death for the dispossessed?

The only thing standing four square in the way of a genuine peace process and a two state solution is more new settlements on purloined palestinian land! A dead and innocent civilian is a dead civilian, whether stabbed by someone who believes there's nothing left to lose?

Or just completely impartial Israeli bombs and shells that rain down on the guilty and innocent alike and consequently rip mothers from their children or worse, in quite massive over reaction to mindless provocation.

Stop with the endless prevarication and just do what must be done to end this endless nightmare of an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth revenge madness!

Settle for a deal all sides can live with! It still hasn't been put on the table yet And given the Israeli PM's disposition! Never ever will be?

And sieg hiel to Fuhrer Nethanyahu. You all have a nice day now y'hear.

Hi Rhosrty,

I agree: "Stop with the endless prevarication and just do what must be done to end this endless nightmare of an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth revenge madness!"

Then don't start it. Rein Hamas and other extreme right-wing groups in. Not that they would care, since they are using brutality and provocation, and the consequent suffering of 'their own' people, as weapons.

Israel pulled out completely from Gaza some time back as a goodwill gesture, and what did the peace-loving Palestinians do ? Brought in Hamas, an uncivilized bunch of terrorists who want to push all Israelis into the sea. Oops, sorry, only the Jews.

The latest tactic ? Stab old ladies in the back. Blow up children. Real heroes.

Joe

Remember, the Security Council allowed Idi Amin's proposition that Israel be labelled a 'racist state' to pass. The Security Council and the entire United Nations is an evil farce which should be abandoned.

Dear Rhrosty,

Netanyahu is not a Führer, he is powerlessly torn between the demands of Sarah, his wife, for him to remain prime-minister at all costs and the pressures of his far-right coalition-partners that represent the violent Jewish settlers to be far more tough-handed on Palestinians than Israel ever was. Within his coalition he is in fact one of the moderates.

You may in fact be interested to learn that he hinted in his last speech this week in the Knesset that secret negotiations are going on with Arab states (probably Saudi Arabia, though it's premature to tell) that will make it easier for Israel to withdraw. His coalition-partners must be fuming about it.

Neither you nor I nor Netanyahu nor anyone can do anything to stop those Jewish militants creating havoc in the West Bank. Nor can you or I or Netanyahu or anyone make the Palestinians accept the existence of Israel.

This situation unfairly tarnishes Israel's reputation as the people of Israel are themselves victims of both those Jewish militants and of the Palestinian terrorists and murderers which they provoke.

What Israel should do (but alas Netanyahu doesn't have the political strength to do it), is to withdraw to its pre-1967 borders, washing its hands and leaving the settlers and Palestinians on the other side to handle their own affairs, allowing whatever happens between them to happen.

Unfortunately, at this very moment this is not feasible because of the danger that if Israel leaves then the Islamic-State would fill in the space on its other side of the border, but once the Islamic-State is defeated, this plan can go ahead.

If netanyahu is powerless to put a deal on the table that all sides except militant settlers can live with? Nethanyahu needs to just get out of the way and allow those who have the will and resolve to end this nightmare, to just get on an get it done!

I would for example require all jewish persons to undertake military training and duties, this would likely end some of this rubbish, given the hardliners would also be standing in harms way, rather than sending others in to do what they just don't have the bona fide courage to do themselves!

The illegal settlements need to be bulldozed and the land handed back to those folk it was stolen from, and anyone not able to live with this outcome simply deported, and very doable given most of the new settlers are mostly gung ho Landless Americans who are recreating the wild west, replete with mandatory side arms and shoot first lawless thugs and ruffians.

And treated as such! Six shooters not much of a defence against sidewinders that impart a message of implacable resolve that can't be misunderstood!

I agree that Nethanyahu is powerless to do anything more than thump the lectern and say what he'll not do, or how high dear? And as long as he and his hopeless refusal to act far more positively and remains in power, this situation can only worsen?

A man that can't even stand up to a dominating wife is just not the man for the job! Sarah reminds me of a story of early Alaska, where the pioneering men were real men and so were the women.

Dear Rhrosty,

Your suggestion to require the settlers to undertake military training and duties is already taken up by them with glee. Giving them training and arms is just what they want and they use every bit of their military positions to achieve their sectarian goals. One of them was recently sentenced to 45 months in prison (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4749001,00.html) for using their access to confidential military data-bases to inform his friends and thwart the authorities' attempts to prevent their atrocities, but many others remain as a fifth-column in the Israeli army, armed to their teeth and uncaught.

You claim it to be "very doable" to remove those settlers, but in fact it isn't, they are more resourceful than you think.

As there is no way to kick them anywhere and as even if they are pushed back into Israel they would create terror and civil war there, my suggestion is for Israel to withdraw but leave them where they are, together with the Palestinians on the other side of a big separating wall, allowing both Jewish and Muslim fanatics to finish off each other.
