Security Council and Quartet silence dooms Palestinian two-state solution : Comments

By David Singer, published 12/2/2016

Reacting to 'occupation' can never justify the murder of Israeli civilians in their own homes, shopping in supermarkets, meeting in bars, or waiting at bus stops.

Hi Poida,

Well, I didn't want to get too detailed or accurate, and incur the wrath of the anti-Semites - left or extreme right (it's hard to tell the difference these days).

Meanwhile in Syria ......

Shalom,

Joe

I never implied I wanted the new settlers to do military service, just the hard line fundamental Jews, who to date have not only successfully avoided it, but effectively dominate the Israeli parliament!

There seems to be covert acceptance over the theft of palestinian land! Justified by referring to the fable, God gave this land to me?

Even were that able to be indisputably proven? The palestinians have the same ancestral claims to Abraham as their jewish cousins. Comparing their DNA to that of jews proves that the are ethnically related.

I think a civil war is just what Israel needs to prove that she is serious about finally halting the ever growing number of illegal settlements on other folks land.

My money's on the jewish military and aerial supported armor! Plus implacable resolve and no half measures!

These folk are land stealing criminals and deserve to face the same no quarter rough justice, wherein they "acquired" their land!

We in the west beat Germany, italy and Japan in WW11, so why aren't those places jam packed with english speaking conquerors owning selected parcels of land?

For the most fundamental of reasons, a desire to live in enduring peace, and because we didn't try to justify theft with, the medieval nonsense, to the victor goes the spoils!

There are just two stark choices, resolve your differences, no matter how unpalatable the final choices, or just watch as the adversarial conflict grows and widens, with new atrocities occurring every day! Until almost nowhere is safe?

A dividing wall? Didn't the germans try that? Creating a really big gulag in the process; and we all know how well that worked and how it ended!

Dear Rhrosty,

<<I never implied I wanted the new settlers to do military service, just the hard line fundamental Jews, who to date have not only successfully avoided it, but effectively dominate the Israeli parliament!>>

Do you mean the Haredim, the only Jewish group in Israel who do not serve in the army? Those Ultra-Orthodox, non-Zionist Jews who distance themselves from the state of Israel? Some of them do not even recognise Israel and identify themselves as Palestinians! Those Jews who only wish to study Torah day and night without interruptions? They aren't settlers, they never harmed a Palestinian and yes, they refuse to go to the army and riot when military-police attempts to arrest one of their young at night (they overturned their police-car and made them escape by foot, hurray!) - but what have you against them? Had you lived in Israel then perhaps you would have some angst against them for not sharing the load of military service, but as you live in Australia, what do you want of them?

They do not dominate the Israeli parliament. They have a handful of members there in coalition (for the opportunistic sake of obtaining public funds for their special schools and for trying to prevent their children from being sent to the army) and these are even more moderate than Netanyahu. OK, so they hold the ministry of health (first time in over 60 years that the Rabbis permitted one of them to become a government-minister) - what's the big deal?

The dividing wall has proven time and again very effective.

Due to that wall, Israel no longer have terrorists and car-bombs exploding in its restaurants, schools and buses. The wall on its Egyptian border prevented not only car-bombs but also half a million African refugees from entering, with many Al-Qaeda and Islamic-State infiltrators hiding among them.

Certainly, the wall is in the wrong place - it should have been situated right over Israel's pre-1967 border rather than where it is now with large segments well inside the West-Bank, but you cannot claim that it isn't effective against terror.

Dear Rhrosty,

So you can eyeball the peaceful Middle East close up we're circulating the cyber collection plate mate and exporting you to Israel/Palestine tomorrah.

We'll drop you in Gaza, West Bank, Israel, Golan Heights, sundry settlements or maybe the south Lebanon free fire zone.

Just pack your chute and the EL AL DC3 will be at your door early.

Cheers

Poida

Yes I do mean the ultra orthodox Jews who to a man are supported by the state.

Yes, they have a small number In the coalition, but given without their current involvement and support, Nethanyahu would be unable to govern, their ultra militant influence and stance far outweighs their (essential to the coalition)numbers on the floor.

And for as long as that influence remains, their hardline refusal to settle for a negotiated two state solution will continue, as will their support for the illegal squatters.

Anywhere else but there squatters are removed for the illegal occupation of other folks property, but in Israel, it's treated as an inalienable right, as is the right to carry and use weapons to defend this illegal occupation.

And only tolerated, given it continues to tilt the vote in favour of the zionists through an immigration (new settlers= new jewish voters) lead gerrymander?

Drop me and my motor bike anywhere you like poida, always providing I am armed with night vision, a dozen RPG's, a 50 cal semi auto gun replete with night vision sights. High powered binoculars and a good topographical map+ sat nav. And a silenced 45 colt semi auto on the hip. Given a chute large enough and the bike and the gear drop in first, I'll touch down like thistledown!

And I'll go anywhere you like and eyeball/video all that there is to see, which will likely change little, given there self evidently no appetite for change by either side.

That might change if America simply just withdrew all moral, financial and material support; until a deal both sides could live with had been nutted out!

As others have noted, there will always be hardliners on both sides, who will never agree to any kind of peace settlement or treaty. and who will need to be treated as a common enemy, even if that means civil war on both sides ot the wall?
