Peter, I think your daughters sound wonderful!
They have their own mind and views, and they stick to them, despite the obviously equally strong views of their father.

You should be proud that you have brought up such strong daughters who stand up for themselves.
Like most of us with daughters, you just have to love them for themselves and realise they may never see or do things like you do. : )

Do you have children, by any chance? More relevantly, were you fortunate enough to have parents?

Because "family arguments" are fundamental to the growing-up process. Without the ritual - kids challenge ideas, and grown-ups defend them on the basis that they are older and wiser. The kids of course don't accept this, and challenge again, on the grounds that a) the world has changed, dad, and b) older might just mean being a stick-in-the-mud, not de facto evidence of wisdom.

And so it goes on. Both sides learn something, about themselves, their ideas, their prejudices, their influences. They might continue to disagree, of course, that is perfectly ok. But to bypass this right of passage on any topic, large or small, is an abdication of parental responsibility. To the point where you have to ask, if you are not getting involved, why did you have children in the first place?
