In Townsville, just after WW11 we had a problem with supply, there wasn't much. Not only that but much of what was available was not too great quality.

I remember helping mum strain the flour to get the weevils [& their residue] from the flour. It was no use complaining to the grocer, what we had was all he could get.

Interestingly the global warming ratbags are now suggesting we were wasting our time. Evidentially according to their plan for us peasants, we should have given thanks for the extra protein, & eaten the bugs, not sure about their plan for the residue, but that is probably in their plans for our future diet too. They obviously think we are sh1t, so probably expect us to be happy to eat it.

I don't know if it is something in the water, or perhaps in the Covid jab, but our elites do appear to be stark raving bonkers in their plans for an insect diet for us.

I knew a few Chimbu, & Kukukuku people in New Guinea in the 70s who were still eating their neighbors into the 60s. Perhaps we could ship our elites to PNG, I gather some old habits are resurrecting. They could probably make our elites of some use to humanity & their diet.

Hi Hasbeen,

Don't knock it until you've tried it! (smile).
Or in our case - the time may come when we don't
have a choice because the global population is
predicted to reach 9.7 billion by 2050.
And of course one of the biggest challenges will be
securing enough food for everyone.

And unless we do pay attention to climate change and
environmentally harmful practices and emerging dioeases
that threaten our supply chains - we'll be in big trouble.

Two billion people from 130 countries already eat insects.
As do many Australians. Did you know that the natural
red food colouring is made from the cochineal bug, or
that 5% of peanut butter is legally allowed to contain
insect fragments.

CSIRO has launched its "Edible Insects Industry Roadmap."
This carries out a comprehensive plan explaining the
challenges and opportunities for Australia to become a
player in a global industry worth A$1.4 billion by 2023.

Plus a report from 2006 found that 20% of Australians
surveyed were keen to eat a witjuri grub ( sometimes spelled
witchetty grub). First Nations Australians have been eating
insects for tens of thousands of years.

How do you know what you're eating when you travel to Bali
and other "exotic" places?

I can still remember while living in Los Angeles being invited
to a dinner-party by a colleague of my husband and thinking
how delicious the food was. One item that I really liked
that was served as an entre and I ate with great gusto,
was so crunchy and crispy - and simply yum, until
someone whispered that I was eating grasshoppers.

Anyhow - we shall live and learn and adapt, I guess. If we
live that long.

It's a wonder the lunatic left hasn't come with the idea of people eating each other to reduce the population. Themselves excluded of course.

The so-called experts have been predicting for 2 1/2 centuries that we were going to run out of food due to population increases.

They've been wrong. Every. Single. Time.

And they are wrong this time as well. Even if the projection that world population will max out at around 10 billion (and that is highly unlikely)are right, we already have the ability to fed that number. Large parts of the globe under cultivation are not yet optimised. If those areas became as productive as the average modern western farm, the world would be able to produce food for some 15 billion. Add to that all the projected advances like vertical farming and GMO and we don't have the slightest reason to be concerned for famine.

Of course, if the powers-that-be really were concerned about our ability to feed ourselves, they'd stop importing more mouths. That they continue immigration at record levels proves that their concerns about future food supplies is mere fearmongering. But as we saw with Covid and global warming, large parts of the population readily fall for such fearmongering.

People who've suffered due to drought and floods
and may continue to do so in the foreseeable future
may have different views. The same goes for
countries who currently have water shortages. And
farmers are beginning for workers because the locals
aren't willing to move out of the urban areas and help
them out. Farmers warn that agriculture will suffer as
a result if help doesn't become available. The work is
there - the workers are not.

Foxy, if we cut the dole for all single people, there would suddenly be a rash of weddings, but it would cure the farm labor shortage quite quickly.
