Hi Foxy,
I totally concur, the people should look to those that have their interests and those of the nation at heart. That however is not always clear, take for example the United Australia Party, outwardly it conveys a message of unity, solidarity, a political party working for the common good of the people, lofty ideals indeed, but what is the reality. Scrape away the facade of the UAP and what do you see, a political party controlled by one man, Clive Palmer, who is totally obsessed with his own self interest. What did I say about fooling all the people some of the time etc etc. A little history, I love history. When the first British Labour government was appointed by the king in 1924 with Ramsay MacDonald as PM, there was much consternation within Buckingham Palace as to what would be the behaviour of MacDonald and his Cabinet Ministers where presented to the King, as was the custom. It almost didn't go ahead as there was great concern as to how this riff-raff of working class Labour politicians would behave before his majesty. Despite all the concern the audience went ahead without any rancor on the labour men's part. Seems they polity nibbled on their cucumber and watercress sandwiches, and dutifully sipped their tea, while making polite small talk with the King. BTW, I see Ramsay MacDonald as one of Britain's greatest leaders of the 20th century, a man well before his time. Posted by Paul1405, Friday, 20 May 2022 6:09:09 AM

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the information about the British Labor Leader - Ramsay MacDonald. I remember a few decades ago my husband and I took a trip to Canberra staying at the Hotel Kurrajong in the Ben Chifley suite. I was hoping that the suite would be haunted. It wasn't. But I felt very spoilt staying in that luxurious suite and sleeping in the same room as Chifley had done. Oh if those walls could talk. Posted by Foxy, Friday, 20 May 2022 11:01:02 AM

Laura Tingle the 7.30 political Chief Political
Correspondent sums up the election: "It was an election that profoundly changed the political geography and demography of Australia. And an election that rejected smarty-pants political tactics and messaging and a call for our political leaders to take the job of government seriously." "It wasn't just that the independent candidates running on climate change made spectacular gains. There was also a swing to the Greens (more seats in Parliament) and even in the so-called "coal" seats like Hunter and Flynn there wasn't a huge swing as had been predicted towards the Coalition because of fear of loss of coal jobs - in fact the swing went towards Labor." Patricia Karvelas states: " A generation of Liberal politicians has been lost and the recriminations will be wide and deep." In the meantime lets look at the new Prime Minister. We're told that "One of the most important things to note about the nature of the new Labor government is that it will be an "Albanese Labor Government." It was Albanese as leader of the house who more than any other person made the last Labor minority government work." Laura Tingle says: 'He is a superb negotiator and coalition builder. Skills that will be critical whatever the final numbers. And that sets the culture for his government." "His Leader of the House, Tony Burke is an equally wily negotiator. There are multiple options for Labor if it wishes to negotiate on particular issues, and significantly, a path through road-blocks that have held Australia back for a decade on climate change." "A proper integrity commission looms which could help re-establish some sense of probity in government and trust from voters. And an Indigenous Voice to Parliament may also finally make progress." Tingle finishes by stating once again - "It's the most transformative election you can imagine both in the country and in the way we govern ourselves." The voters certainly got it right this time. http://abc.net.au/news/2022-05-22/election-2022-anthony-albanese-wins-transformative-election/101087834 Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 22 May 2022 3:47:38 PM

Our future is looking bright.
Thank You Australia! People have made their voices heard - loud and clear. People have thought for themselves. No longer can the rusted-on supporters claim victory. Issues do matter - and haviog consultation in Parliament from a wide variety of voices will make a huge difference. Change has arrived - and not a moment too soon. Congratulations Australia! Every decade or so Australians need a reminder of what a bunch of idiots Labor is.
Small things to be grateful for: 1 Mean girl Keneally is out, 2 Labor's vote also decreased, 3 Labor is in a minority government and will have to partner with the irrational greens and/or the one-dimensional Teals. Good luck with that. 4 Albo won't be able to run away when asked hard questions in question time. As for Aus becoming a renewables powerhouse, let's see how long labor last after power costs rocket and blackouts occur. Posted by shadowminister, Monday, 23 May 2022 2:30:51 PM

It is time that voters woke up and looked at
who really has their interests and those of the nation
at heart and not their own interests or those of their
political party.
We can't afford a second decade of inertia.
