When it comes to the public's health sometimes
responsible governments have to take a firm stand
to protect people whether a small minority likes
it or not. It's the responsible thing to do.
To do nothing when people are flaunting the rules
imposed for the good of everyone is not an option.
And could end up being even more costly in the
long term. After all we should be governed by the
rule of law - which applies to us all.

I only ever QR sign-in when the business personally asks me to, which I do without demur.

Otherwise I'd just as soon not abet the government in tracking my movements.

Wow mahze, you must be more important, & dangerous than we have realise, if the government, stretched as it is, would bother tracking your every movement. I have no worry that any of our governments, even the communist one in Victoria, have the interest in me, or the capacity, to bother tracking my movements.

If you are really worried about being tracked, you had better ditch any credit or debit cards. They are the ones that make it easy for you to be tracked electronically.

The same goes for any mobile device you may carry. Best not purchase stuff over the net either, that is really easy to track. You manually signing in to shops is pretty hard to trace, compared to these.

Personally I only carry the old mobile phone because the kids gave me an old one they had finished with, & asked me to carry it when out in a car. They obviously don't think I can still fix the cars I built myself out of various parts cars, & want to keep me "safe" what ever that is today. I have no idea what these apps are or how to use them, probably because I don't want to know, but I am happy to sign in to aid tracing if I've visited a trouble spot.

I would find it flattering if any of our governments considered me interesting or important enough to bother tracking me, but I doubt they will bother.

I am with you Foxy! To ensure no more Covid everyone should be locked down forever, jabbed daily and if any protest is forthcoming bring out the snipers and flamethrowers! Then I thought who will man the security and murder squads? There were certainly people in the Jewish communities during the Holocaust called "Kapos" who killed to delay their own death so it is possible.
Then I thought again how about a new campaign, $700 a week for all politicians and the public service for the duration of the pandemic? How about curfews for even the politicians with those ankle trackers to ensure compliance?
Then I thought about the average age of victims of Covid all unfit and usually elderly. These poor people would not be water skiing and such. Most were actually in aged care anyway but they would all be not too inconvenienced by a lock down.
On balance I think we need to ensure no politician ever gives themselves wartime powers they are exercising at the moment but just addresses the vulnerable in the community.
Sorry Foxy you are completely wrong and I believe your error will be apparent before the end of next year.

Hasbeen,

"Wow mahze, you must be more important, & dangerous than we have realise, if the government, stretched as it is, would bother tracking your every movement. "

Well no, they don't need to track or target me personally at this moment, just have the ability to do so at some time. There's these newfangled things called computers. You might have heard of them - they've been in all the papers. Well they allow the government to store large amounts of information that is available as needs be. Now if you combine that with a rudimentary understanding of history then you realise that, while they may not be interested in this or that person now, the future is unclear. Perhaps a rudimentary reading about East Germany would be in order.

So while its unlikely to occur, best not to tempt fate by kowtowing to the authoritarians - as seems to be your want.

" you are really worried about being tracked, you had better ditch any credit or debit cards. They are the ones that make it easy for you to be tracked electronically."

You'd be amazed at what a combination of aVPN and a virtual debit card can do. Combine that with a US or UK mail address service and your purchases become virtually invisible to all but the most determined of investigators.

Can all this Orwellian Big Brother stuff detect whether of not you have actually done whatever it is you are supposed to do with your you-beaut smart phone, or if you have merely pointed it for show? Or, if you are using pen and paper, what you have actually written?
