Australia's terrorists can be colour coded, even if this shocks the politically correct and runs counter to ASIO's bland new world.

On 25 May 2021,
http://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/7269257/ideologically-motivated-terror-now-taking-up-half-of-asio-work/ the head of ASIO said
"Our investigations [into] ideologically-motivated violent extremism, such as racists and [white] nationalists, are approaching 50 per cent of our priority counter-terrorism onshore caseload,"

ASIO has attempted to be racially, politically and religiously neutral by defining Australia's major terrorist threats as:

- "religiously motivated violent extremism". Yet more than 90% of the time this means potentially or actively violent BROWN Australians motivated by extreme Islamic causes (including Jihad). ASIO, after all, is not talking about the ABSENCE of violent religiously motivated Jewish, Buddhist or Christian extremism in Australia.

AND

- "ideologically motivated violent extremism." Yet more than 90% of the time this means potentially or actively violent WHITE far right Australians (many of whom are overtly White nationalist http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_nationalism - like some OLO commenters). ASIO, after all, has not identified Ideologically Motivated non-White violent threats (eg. Aborigines, Chinese, etc) with the exception of a small Kurdish group.

Furthermore key academics and officials have not been constrained by ASIO's laboured neutrality http://www.lowyinstitute.org/publications/extremism-and-clear-terminology . This is even if the English speaking (aka "Five Eye") security alliance is attempting to be politically correct. Political correctness aimed at avoiding discussion of the sharp rise of Trump legitimised White Terrorism, infecting other countries, via the Internet, from US based groups.

And after all the sensibilities of (who some consider) "rightwing" Mr Dutton, former Minister, Home Affairs (coordinating "Counter-terrorism policy" including ASIO http://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/about-us/who-we-are ) need no longer be avoided by ASIO.

So I argue colour coding terrorism on BROWN and WHITE lines has more going for it than the bland language of political avoidance.

Hi Planty

I take your point, its fair comment. I have concerns about some comments made on this site by obvious White Nationalists. Take this one for example;

"Anybody who would allocate their first preference vote to the Labor, Liberal, Green or National parties is so extremely mentally ill, they should be taken out to the RSPCA & humanely put down with the other dangerous dogs."

"We used to execute people by firing squad for treason.".

Of course probably "hot air", lets hope so.

ASIO makes Dad's Army look professional. Cop Yul Brynner aka Mike Burgess, the umpteenth head of the organisation. All this yabber about terrorism is just an attempt to make him look relevant. Terrorism in Australia is a figment of his imagination: one or two absurd Muslims locked up, and a bunch of bovver boys having a camping trip in the Grampians. Burgess has to come up with this crap to make a compulsory report to the government seem worth having.

"There is a link between hate speech and hate crime, including acts of terrorism…". What a load of bollocks. Even 'hate speech" is not an officially described phenomenon, merely some crackpot's objection to free speech.

When asked to come up with the actual chance of a terror attack, and when it might happen, Burgess mumbled like a drunk. The man is a joke.

And the "white terrorism" is a construct of good old self-hater, plantagenet.

ttbn, their is a fine line between free speech and hate speak. At times some politicians like Hanson have crossed the line to vilify monitories.

BTW, the above example of crossing the line in my view on this Forum was not posted by ttbn.

Hi Paul and tt

Its less about "hate speach" in isolation. Its more about patterns, ie. words that verifiably lead to acts. Even OLO's Mr Hate Speech (LEGO) distances himself from the violent acts of Nazis in Australia.

tt Australia does have a history of Violent Terrorism, eg. the Sydney Hilton Hotel Bombing http://www.nfsa.gov.au/collection/curated/terrorism-strikes-sydney-hilton-hotel-bombing

and especially the Australian Terrorist exported Christchurch killer.

You, tt, are no expert. It takes experience (of those principly in ASIO, AFP and State Police forces) to identify potentials, monitor those groups/individuals as these White and Brown Terrorists shift from words, to active preparations.

The main and hardest thing is to head off White or Brown terrorists in the act, often when there's enough evidence to convict.

Tapping into biased media coverage here, and a lack of understanding of the issue among Australians, political activists are pushing a radical and anti-Semitic agenda under the pretext of supporting peace. They have normalised discrimination and hatred against Israelis and Jews in universities with messages of hate. Jewish students and academics are vulnerable to a barrage of antisemitic commentary.

There is also an increase of anti-Semitism in the wider Australian public, and in left wing political parties. The Greens, in particular, have called for economic sanctions against Israel, including that all military trade between Australia and Israel should be stopped. NSW Young Greens announced that they would boycott the Australasian Union of Jewish Students.
