There's nothing wrong with ASIO's boss. He's been quite forthcoming and did have to work with Dutton (often not easy) before Dutton was shifted to Defence. Lack of news is good news in security. ie lack of terrorist incidents in Aus for some months is good news. Meaning ASIO in Canberra and state capitals and overseas (with foreign and domestic) agencies supporting ASIO are all doing their job. Also lack of news due to necessary secrecy of ASIO monitoring White and Brown/Islamic terrorism. Hoping Trump being booted from Presidency is helping take the wind out of the sails of White terrorism in US, Aus etc. Posted by plantagenet, Saturday, 5 June 2021 5:41:05 PM

This is interesting...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terrorist_incidents_in_Australia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorism_in_Australia It appears that many of the incidents appear to be Islamic Based. When considering Terrorism it is easy to forget the insurgency Intelligence/ Counter Intelligence aspect which could and often is state sponsored. Often Intelligence by it's nature never becomes public but can be very influential on the public. Remember the Cambridge Five. During the 1980's there were apparently many foreign supported Communist Terrorist activities occurring in the UK. Many of the Australian Extreme Communist Scene seems to have UK roots. My feeling is that the Australian Intelligence community is politicalised and weak when it comes to actors with foreign support. There are some interesting posts here on the intelligence framework within Australia. I think that it's important to remember that terrorism entails some sort of organised violent action for some ideological cause- and democracy supposedly allows an outlet to act by the vote rather than by violence to achieve political outcomes. I understand that sometimes police act to escalate conflicts to a violent conclusion to justify their actions and bring the incident to a close. Sometimes it's better for the police to back away to a safe distance- and allow the group to make their point as peacefully as possible. There has been a rise of counter protests supposedly to stop some voices being heard. Posted by Canem Malum, Friday, 11 June 2021 3:14:29 AM

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-wing_terrorism Marxist–Leninist terrorism or revolutionary left-wing terrorism, is committed overthrowing capitalist systems. left-wing terrorist groups that had operated in the 1970s and 1980s disappeared- mid-1990s. Greek Revolutionary Organization 17 November until 2002. -insurgent groups in the developing world. influenced by various communist and socialist currents, including Marxism. Narodnaya Volya 19th-century terrorist group killed Tsar Alexander II of Russia in 1881 and concept of propaganda of the deed, is influence. -while left-wing terrorism is ideologically motivated, nationalist-separatist terrorism is ethnically motivated... left-wing terrorism is non-negotiable whereas nationalist terrorists are willing to make concessions- may explain their lack of support relative to nationalist groups- revolutionary left have shown solidarity for national liberation groups employing terrorism, such as Irish nationalists, the Palestine Liberation Organization and the South American Tupamaros- global struggle against capitalism... separatist movements, including the Basque ETA, the Provisional Irish Republican Army and the Irish National Liberation Army, incorporated communist and socialist ideology into their policies. David Brannan writes that left-wing terrorists and insurgents tend not to engage in indiscriminate attacks on the public as it not only runs contrary to the socialist ideals they espouse of being protectors of the working class, but they also do not want to alienate large swaths of the working population as such organizations and individuals seek to gain their support. Other researchers argue that left-wing terrorism may not be less indiscriminate than its right-wing counterpart. Left-wing terrorism has its roots in the 19th and early 20th century anarchist terrorism and became pronounced during the Cold War. Modern left-wing terrorism developed in the context of the political unrest of 1968. -Europe the West German Red Army Faction, Italian Red Brigades, French Action Directe, Belgian Communist Combatant Cells. Asian groups- Japanese Red Army and (Tamil Tigers), although the latter organization later adopted nationalist terrorism. In Latin America, groups that became actively involved in terrorism in the 1970s and 1980s included the Nicaraguan Sandinistas, the Peruvian Shining Path and the Colombian 19th of April Movement. A 2014 paper by Kis-Katos et al. concluded that left-wing terrorism was the most prevalent terrorism in the past.. Posted by Canem Malum, Saturday, 12 June 2021 6:44:08 AM

-terrorist groups in the United States developed from Weather Underground and Students for a Democratic Society. Between 1973 and 1975, the Symbionese Liberation Army was active, committing bank robberies, murders, and other acts of violence. Other terrorist groups such as the small New World Liberation Front resorted to death threats, drive-by shootings and planting of pipe-bombs in the late 1970s. During the 1980s, both the May 19th Communist Organization and United Freedom Front. Incidents of left-wing terrorism dropped off at the end of the Cold War (circa 1989), partly due to the loss of support for communism.
http://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/militant-extremists-united-states FBI states leftist extremist groups "generally profess a revolutionary socialist doctrine and view themselves as protectors of the people against the "dehumanizing effects" of capitalism and imperialism." From 1960 to the mid-1980s, most acts of extremist violence were committed by leftist factions like the Weather Underground. A wellspring of disaffected, radical youth with ideological roots in the civil rights, women’s liberation, and anti-war movements provided these groups with much of their militant fervor. -marked decline since the fall of the Soviet Union- FBI infiltration campaign in the mid-1980s. http://www.thegreatcoursesdaily.com/left-wing-terror-radicalized-activists-or-government-pawns/ https://www.thegreatcoursesdaily.com/secret-societies-rise-of-the-communist-international/ https://www.thegreatcoursesdaily.com/marxism-after-marx-in-europe-and-america/ https://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/homeland-security/249688-the-1970s-and-the-birth-of-contemporary-terrorism Posted by Canem Malum, Saturday, 12 June 2021 6:53:32 AM

This ASIO clown was spluttering about "right wing terrorists" back in April. They turned out to be late teenage and early 20s kids fed up with politicians, and vocal, not violent. They would never have been heard of if it wasn't for the sensationalist media; and they were forgotten the next day.
