Unfortunately the 25th Amendement of the US Constitution procedure would probably take too long for Pence to replace Trump before Biden gets in on 21st January (our time).

Many in China have made comparisons between the US today and coups in the Third World undemocratic Asian, African and Hispanic countries Trump himself dubbed "shiitholes" 2 years back.

The belief that the US would collapse like the Soviet Union has circulated among members of the Chinese elite since the mid-2000s, especially after the 2008 financial crisis. The attempted coup raises the likelihood, almost the certainty, that Trump is secretly working for the Chinese Communist Party. They would be very disappointed that their 'cunning plan' didn't work. How else can anyone explain this tragedy ?

What a dreadfully dark day for the US. The only bright light is the election of two Democratic senators in Georgia, and therefore the Democratic control of the Senate AND the House of Reps.

Let's hope that Trump finds himself in jail until well after the 2024 election. Although it may well be that treason, sedition and incitement may attract more severe penalties than mere jail ?
