Machiavelli's view is "we go to war so we can have peace" it's better to win by diplomatic means if possible.

Good on you. Anyone calling himself/herself Australian looks suspect if they use American spelling. Australian English is British English, NOT American English.

This subject is stupid, and I am not going to comment on it. Despite what Mr. Opinion is always claiming, a mere 650,700 Chinese were living here at the end of 2018.
