Australia is described as a successful multicultural
country. And it is. But there is a predominant culture
just as there is a predominant language. And the
political and cultural institutions that govern
Australia are absolutely critical for people to live
in tolerance and harmony.

Within an institutional framework that preserves tolerance
and protects order we can all celebrate and enjoy diversity
in food, music, religion, language and culture. But we could
not do that without the framework which guarantees the freedom
to enjoy diversity.

And lets not forget also that to be an Australian citizen
one pledges loyalty first to Australia. One pledges to share
certain beliefs - democratic beliefs - to respect the rights
and liberty of others, and to respect the rule of law.
