We need people who devote themselves to laying a basis for the prosperity of future generations and to heightening the respect the world pays to and owes our country. We do have unresolved problems that face us, especially addressing Indigenous disadvantage, dealing with the structure of federalism, water shortages, land management, the environment, immigration, and so on. We must deal with these to move forward as a free, fair, and vibrant society and I have no doubt we can find the solutions that suit us provided we do not succumb to the siren calls of demagogues, charlatans and ideologues. The achievements of the past decades have laid an extraordinary foundation. Properly preserved and built on we now have apportunities we never had before in Australia's history. The best years for our country are still ahead of us. Posted by Foxy, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 11:59:09 AM

Foxy,
That you fired the first shots in this debate makes you latest post a little unctuous. https://www.afr.com/policy/economy/abbott-s-the-right-man-to-help-boris-on-trade-20200910-p55uh3 "It is true that Tony Abbott was more involved in trade than the prime ministers who both preceded and proceeded him. His impact on the trade outcomes during his prime ministership – which included the conclusion of China, Japan and South Korea Free Trade Agreements (FTA) – were threefold. First, Abbott declared in the lead-up to the 2013 election that all three trade agreements, sitting unfinished under a distracted Rudd-Gillard-Rudd government, would be completed within 12 months. Second, he insisted on an “open for business” mindset across all portfolios, but especially the internationally oriented ones. Finally, he had a terrific, warm, and ‘make it happen’ relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which almost resulted in an FTA with India." Shadow Minister,
Well what can I say. Your exaggerated claims about Mr Abbott's "success" and " effectiveness" is little more than hyperbole. What you choose to believe is no longer of any interest to me. Posted by Foxy, Tuesday, 15 September 2020 4:33:04 PM

Foxy,
The financial review thinks that he is superb for the job as do many other people, the only ones that don't are still smarting from the trouncing he gave labor in 2013. Posted by shadowminister, Wednesday, 16 September 2020 4:17:04 AM

Threat to holding an opinion destroys your potential.

Let go of your dogma and see the
facts. Take off your blinkers.
This is not a competition. We don't
need to compare - "My side is better and
bigger than yours". Each should be judged
individually. Foe example:
Take a look at what Kevin Rudd has achieved post
politics:
http://www.kevinrudd.com/kevin/
Look up what Wayne Swan, Craig Emerson and others are
doing today.
You should be well aware that politics for all its rough
edges is a civilised and civilising calling. Despite all
the obloquy shovelled on the head of politicians they are
the men and women who work the machinery of our liberal
democratic way of life. They reflect public opinion
and at their best lead public opinion and transform it into
laws that shape our society and our country.
