Yes he is definitely a lawyer alright! The sort of person shadowminister would be proud to call a friend.

Tony Abbott according to The Monthly, Sydney Morning
Herald and other sources - arrived on a Rhodes
Scholarship in October 1981. He was a controversial
choice because he
hadn't demonstrated the academic brilliance of ability,
leadership, or grades normally associated with the prize.

Abbott's selection was considered a triumph for Jesuit
wheeler-dealer - Father Emmet Costello (Chaplain at
the Jesuit College, St. Ignatius, Riverview, on the North
Shore. Father Costello was a worldly Jesuit from a wealthy
background who knew many of the important political p[layers.
Father Emmet Costello mentored the future minister at
St Ignatius College, and successfully won the Rhodes
Scholarship for him.

As a result this London born Sydney-sider graduated in 1983
with a BA in philosophy, politics, and economics. His exam
results were poor and he was as stated earlier, officially
placed in the 2nd class.

Upon his arrival in England Abbott gained immediate
selection in Oxford's XV rugby team as a prop. forward.
This didn't last long. In March 1982 Abbott was dropped
in favour
of a bigger forward. As a result he switched
to boxing.
It brought him and his supporters a very
inferior consolation
prize. An Oxford "blue" for boxing.

when he was at Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship
1953-1956. Hawke did it in 11 seconds (two and a
