O sung wo and Paul at least know the truth
Any combat situation demands first you keep control of your weapon, or have it used against you
And these crimes happen on the streets, in shops, homes, just walking down the road
Carers bash and mistreat the elderly because they can
Even at my age I would rather not have to defend myself from someone a third of my age
This is real life no John Wayne western, the hero often gets beat in real life
Aware of others concerns about punishment of offenders and know we must find better ways to fix those concerns, but not at the expense of victims

Reintroduce a National Service & be done with it ! All this crime is a mentality problem. I'm surprised vigilantism hasn't taken off yet in earnest. It is clear now that the Law is protecting the criminals more than the victims. That just shows how out of touch these ivory tower bureaudroids within the Public Service are.
Anyone against a NS is as guilty if not worse than the criminals & should be charged with hypocrisy.

Paul,

"Would you support efforts to remove ALL guns from society?"

Yes, provided that the criminals were disarmed first, then we could disarm everybody else, police, military, etc.

Belly,

You still haven't told us what you would do as the axe blade smashed through your front door.

Indy, I am against NS, so lump me in. Why penalise the majority that are doing the right thing? As for NS what is the cost, and how would it be organised, more of those PS's you so detest. Should there be higher taxes to pay for more prisons and NS? Some habitual criminals actually prefer jail to the outside.

I totally agree, you do the crime, you do the time, but someone has to determine what that time is, and its never going to satisfy all of the community no matter what.

Live in a nice closely settled suburb do you ttbn, how nice for you. Out here we have 5 police stations with in 24 to 28 kilometres of us, but the last time someone rang to report a robbery in progress, the cops turned up the next day, to itemise what was stolen.

Anyone depending on government run organisations is a "bloody idiot". The last time an ambulance was called by a neighbour, [to come from any of the 5 stations almost beside those 5 cop shops], it took an hour & 18 minutes to get here. Not much help if you're having a heart attack, or your head bashed in by some scumbag.

Fat lot of help the cops are at night too, when the stations are shut, & one patrol car has 10,000 Sq kilometres to "protect".

o sung wu, hi old mate, you did miss one form of protection that is legal & effective. A big nasty dog or 2. Yes owning a pit bull, if you are not really good at dog training might be as dangerous as the intruder, but there are a number of breeds that are great pets, but also good guard dogs. Our own Australian breed cattle dog is very protective, & easy to train.

When I had my racing cars, expensive gear like real magnesium wheels & other stuff was highly burglar attractive. My 2 large Great Danes, roaming the yard & the house through a swinging flyscreen back door meant my stuff was pretty safe. They were really softies, [I think}, but no one ever bothered to find out the hard way.
