'African' four-man gang storm a McDonald's in Melbourne and bash a 19-year-old worker over the head with a metal pole

A gang of African youths have smashed their way into a McDonald's restaurant and bashed a teenage employee with a metal pole.

The terrifying armed robbery unfolded in Laverton, Melbourne's south-west, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Four masked offenders demanded cash before fleeing the scene, leaving a 19-year-old man with a serious laceration to his head.

'Investigators have been told four masked offenders forced their way into a fast food outlet on Fitzgerald Road about 3.20am,' Victoria Police said in a statement.

'One of the staff members, a 19-year-old man, was hit over the head with a metal pole.

'The offenders, who are perceived to be African in appearance, fled the scene.'

Police have urged anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
