Israel’s parliament, ministerial offices, Supreme Court, President’s residence and PM’s residence have all been located in the western part of Jerusalem since the early days of the state. This is not part of the area that Israel captured during the 1967 war and is not designated by the UN as ‘Occupied Palestinian Territory’. It is not a part of the city that has been the subject of negotiations for a two-state outcome. Locating an embassy in the uncontested western part of Jerusalem would in no way pre-judge the future status of the contested eastern part of the city captured by Israel in 1967.

The Knesset is located in Givat Ram, Jerusalem not in "West Jerusalem." Even after its Berlin airlift the US had no embassy in West Berlin ( but had a Mission in "West Berlin"). Scomo has jumped without looking where Turnbull kept looking but didn't jump anywhere.

Givat Ram in general and the Knesset in particular are incontestably well within Western Jerusalem.

Western Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and normally I would place any embassies there, but the reason I oppose the move of the Australian embassy to Jerusalem, even Western Jerusalem, is that the main roads and rail-line from the rest of Israel to Jerusalem pass at one point or another through the West Bank.

Yes, it is usually possible to drive from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on minor winding roads without sojourning into the West Bank, but almost no public transport go through those roads and when it snows they are blocked.
