It does seem that Indonesia wants to see our embassy in Jerusalem as
they must realise that by making that public statement of disapproval
they removed any option that Australia had on the matter.
They would have told Turnbull to pass their concern on privately if
they had wanted to not make it a public issue.
To comply with their demand would mean that Indonesia is acquiring the
power to veto any foreign policy that we might consider.

I just do not believe that the Indonesians had not considered and
understood those implications. To think otherwise is to suggest that
their government and diplomats are not sophisticated enough to understand these matters.

Your claim is jus stupid, Bazz.

Indonesia does not have the power of veto over our foreign policy decisions, and it never will.

You seem to think we should give Indonesia the ability to control our foreign policy by pressuring us to do the opposite. I uncharacteristically say piss off! We still have exactly the same choice as we do when the move was first proposed – and we shouldn't opt for an expensive and unpopular move just to scupper a free trade agreement with Indonesia.

Bazz,

It appears that you must have made a typing error.
Indonesia is objecting to Australia's proposal of
moving its embassy to Jerusalem. Which is understandable
with Indonesia being a Muslim country that it would
support the Palestinians in the Israeli/Palestine
conflict.

Whereas the current government has not finalised its
decision on the move - we should wait and see what happens.
The decision will be made shortly. However, to move the
embassy to Jerusalem is not a good idea if we want to
maintain good relations with our nearest and largest
neighbour.

Of course Indonesia should not dictate our foreign policy,
we are supposed to be a sovereign state - but then neither
should the US. We can only trust that our recent and current
PM will have the rationality to stand firm on this
issue. After all all other embassies are trying to remain
neutral in this conflict between Israel and Palestine and
are keeping their embassies in Tel Aviv.

Diplomacy a word we once used to avoid confrontation.
In that shame filled propaganda machine Sky news last night, two grown men took on the nation to our north.
Indonesia is not just a trading partner, it is the biggest Islamic nation in the world
In saying we should take our own view, we ignore the truth
They have that right too, to an opinion
Israel, the country we, the best of us, have in our very DNA to defend, having lived in a time they saw 6 million murdered, has of late been less that it should be.
Diplomacy, not confrontation from ScoMo, who both used this thought bubble to try to win Wentworth, and is looking more Trump like, in a mini me style every day
