Australia can't bring the children here because their parents have been found to have Terrorist Ties or are not genuine Refugees. That's why the children can't come & so it should be.

What really gets to me is, they were granted Refugee status because they would be in danger of they were sent back to whence they came. As soon as they get their Citizenship they race off to where they were going to be in danger to get the rest of their family out here or to fight & be one of the people that refugees are escaping from. Strange that.

If Australia took in the refugees on Nauru, would they be part of the annual refugee quota ? Would that mean that some poor buggers who have been waiting in some shirt-hole in the Kenyan desert for ten or fifteen years have their applications put back ?

The refugees on Nauru shouldn't be penalised any further: they should be repatriated - with their full costs reimbursed - back to Indonesia, given the standard application forms and encouraged to apply, with no penalty for trying it on illegally. In other words, they join the queue.

Oh, there's no queue ? Sixty eight million refugees around the world - how many do you think have applied to come to Australia - only fourteen thousand each year, so there's no queue ? Or a million, each patiently waiting their turn ? Even if it takes seventy years ?

By all means, push up the annual quota, say to twenty thousand. At that rate, some people might be waiting out in the desert for only fifty years.

An aside: I was once on a very crowded suburban bus next to an African woman: I suggested that if the driver took any more on-board, we would have to get married. She laughed and laughed, and later told me that she had been in a refugee camp in Guinea for eighteen years before she could bring her family to Australia.
