//They are shot at night because they are nocturnal animals, The roos spend their days laying around in the shade of the bush. Seldom see many around during the day.//

I've seen plenty that are quite active during the day... they seem to be most active around dawn and dusk (is there a special word for that?), but still quite alert during the day. That's Eastern Greys, at any rate.

And after some googling to sate my curiosity, I have learned a brand new word: crepuscular, which refers to animals that are most active during twilight.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crepuscular_animal

That sounds like a better description roos than nocturnal or diurnal.

Paul, I've still yet to hear your suggestion as to which part of their anatomy roos should be shot in to dispatch as swiftly and humanely as possible. What's the matter, cat got your tongue? That's not like you, Paul. Feeling OK?

'runner, will your church be compensating its pedophile victims? Or are you keeping your head in the sand on that one.' wow Paul a Green who has a conscience and knows pedophile is wrong. Amazing. It takes hatred of the church to arouse your conscience. Then again you demonstrate you could not care less about epidemic sexual abuse in aboriginal communities so it really is about sides is't paul.

Toni Lavis,
If you see some roos during daylight hours, it will be nothing compared to the number there after dark proper. Some may begin to venture out a bit early and there may be a few stragglers after dawn. They will move further out as the night progresses. Then start to return to their cover about dawn.

Something else you may not know. If you are looking for roos wait till after dark and visit the paddocks the owner has shut up (removed stock) to promote grass growth. Fences are just an obstacle for roos and they much prefer fresh feed. Roadsides attract roos because stock do not graze it and there is better growth due to runoff from the bitumen.

Vehicle damage, from roos, is very high in and around Canberra hence the research into many aspects relating to roos. Remember the government spent millions researching the little black bush flies because the Canberrans did not like them. We got a benefit of less flies and we may get some benefit from the roo research, eventually.

Toni, did you ask me that question. Sorry if I missed it, I have no problem with the answer, which Banjo has already supplied.
"Professional roo shooters head shoot them, otherwise the processors will not accept them."

Toni, you seem to be a little confused as to my position on the Kangaroo Industry. I do not oppose the sustainable exploration of kangaroos. What I said was there is room for alternative opinions as to the merits of the industry as it now operates. This film, which I have not seen, offers some alternative which all I am saying is, people have a right to express that alternative opinion. I am always suspicious of those who react to criticism with howls of "how dare you question me!" as is evident in this case, then I become very suspicious that maybe all is not rosy in the garden.

"Anyway, it tastes better than the crap you urban Greens like." AND what is wrong with a 'Vegetarian Venison Shish Kebab on a Organic Skewer with a Dill Sauce' very reasonably priced at $29 off the blackboard menu at the Cafe De Latte in Newtown. I always feel I am doing my bit for the endangered Pandas of Ethiopia every time I have one. How about you?

There is just a mite of difference between having an alternative opinion and actively sabotaging one of one's countries industries.
