AS was pointed out on another thread, Charles Lindberg was a supporter of or, at least, looked favourably on Adolph Hitler and Fascism.

Yet he was an American patriot and had a distinguished war record, having flown some 50 combat missions and shot down at least one Japanese Zero.
He was also responsible for doubling, or almost doubling the effective range of the P38 'Lightning' fighter plane by improving the technique of flying them, this was a major contribution to the war effort and moreover, cost nothing.

In fact, it is doubtful if any other American, or indeed Allied, pilot had a war record as unique as that of Lindbergh.

Hi Issy,

Should we give him a pat on back? Like so many conservatives in the 1930's including the Queens uncle Eddy, Henry Ford, our very own 'Pig Iron' Bob Menzies, founder of the Liberal Party, Lindbergh was duped by Hitler and fascism into thinking it was all a great idea. Clearly Lindbergh was a bigoted racists, even if he did shoot down a Jap observation plane, flying as a civilian. The US government refused him a communion in the Air Force, I wonder why.

Paul,

"The US government refused him a communion in the Air Force, I wonder why."

Perhaps because he wasn't High Church Anglican or Catholic or similar?

Sounds fair enough Issy, must have been with sin. You know that Hitler had "scientific evidence" that the Japanese were Aryan, he just didn't bother telling the big cheese Limburger. Up early "T" gone to NZ for a tangi.

You're right there runner, Hitler liked old Hollywood comedy moves, aka the Marx Brothers, and could have been a secret cross dresser as well. That makes him a Marxist/feminist in my book. Wow!

Issy, while I'm being flippant, I have a question. Do you think that it was possible/probable that when Charlie Limburger was shooting down Jap spy planes over New Guinea, a stray bullet could have hit a certain forumites daddy-in-law who was hiding in a tree in the jungle below. Just asking.
